I don't know why this problem happen, I search in BIOS Setting and can't find anything abnormal

Make sure you are running the latest BIOS version.

Can you check your invoice and let me know the brand of the storage devices (HDD, SSD, mSATA) in your system?

I have the same issue with my M17 and have not been able to resolve it. Tried everything, tested all my hardware, ran dells diagnostic, took my hdds out entirely, power drain, no battery, on battery only etc etc and it does it everytime. Have not had much time to call Dell about it, and everytime I do they want me to run the full diagnostic outside of windows which takes like an hour and I end up getting disconnected or having to go before it's done.

I update my M14 to BIOS version A07 but this problem is still remaining...

After many days to monitor this problem, I think I find the reason make my M14 to this issue

    - If the battery is full charged status (100%) -> this issue happen

    - If the battery is not full charged status (charging) -> this issue does not happen

When I use M14 by battery -> M14 is so hot, at least hotter than using in plug in power mode...

So how can I make my battery not in full charged mode, anyone have the guidance please help me because I think If I bring my M14 to support center, nothing can fix because except this issue anything is so good, and I don't want they reassemble my M14 to analysis this issue...

If after the BIOS update the issue wasn't fixed, the HDD needs to be replaced, send me a PM with your service tag and the link to this thread and I'll help you out with the repairs.

Natalia - are you really saying that a dodgy hard drive will cause this problem? If so this is a really poor design on Dells part a faulty hard drive should never cause a machine to power on then go off. It should come on and give no boot device or something similar.

I have Bios version A08 (most recent, was always up to date until I saw this thread and checked for an update for my 17, so I updated to 08 and the problem persists). As for storage brands I have the stock 750gb HDD that came with my laptop, and I added in my own OCZ Agility 3 in the second bay (Wiped both HDDs prior to installation and did a fresh install obviously). It worked fine for months after adding my SSD then all the sudden this started one day. Have not been able to solve it no matter how many bios updates or tests I try. I notice when the machine does power down during the initial turn on I can hear the HDD audibly spin down and sometimes even make a click when it shut off, but I never thought anything of it because it's not uncommon to hear external HDDs spindown and sometimes even click when they fully power down so I never thought the HDD could be causing an issue this severe in my new laptop, especially when it worked and tested fine. I ran Dells diagnostic on it multiple times and also scanned it with MHDD myself a couple times. Sadly I have not had the time to sit on the phone long enough to finish talking to a rep about it because anytime I do we run through the same checks everytime and ask me to run the Dell diagnostic.

Edit: It's worth noting as well I have tried booting the computer with both only the original hdd in it and only the ssd in it, as well as no hard drives as well and either way it still powers off like that.
