    Hi

I'm thinking of upgrading to the m14x r2 with 8gb of ram, the 3rd gen (ivy bridge) Intel i7-3720QM processor and a SSD

I currently play Diablo III, SWTOR and WOW and do the usual uni student stuff (onenote, browsing etc.). When doing all this i usually use an external monitor (1920 x 1080 res)

Right now my m11x r2 is just not cutting it with those games - in particular SWTOR and diablo which i still get lag on the lowest graphics (yes i've overclocked, throttle stopped etc.) and so this leads to the question:

Will an m14x with those specs be able to handle those games on max graphics on an external monitor?

    Thanks in advance!

I just got my R2 and am getting 90-100 FPS on Diablo 3 with max settings. Laptop is stock except for screen upgrade and intel 3rd gen ivy bridge.

Yeh i noticed that when i got my m11x - it didn't seem to perform half as well as other people with the same laptop. That said 40-60 fps is probably fine for me

Anyone have any details on the other games? SWTOR or WOW?

I play WoW and run everything on Ultra. 60 fps most of the time (or more, I think the WoW fps calc tops out at 60). The only time it drops down to 40 fps or so is when there's a lot of water or particles going on. I'm sure if I ran everything at "High" that it'd be a full 60 fps at all times.

    I have the R1 m14x with 4 GB and a 555m graphics card.

I play SWTOR fine. I've found the sweet spot (turned down graphics a bit and shut off bloom) and I don't have a problem getting 50+ fps. Don't know if this helps?

Hmmm I'm a bit skeptical about these 90-100fps...

The Only way I've managed to get 100fps is w/ Shadows off and No AA...

    W/ everything maxed... 60fps...

    i3610
    8GB RAM
    2GB Nvidia 650m

I don't know if you wanted to know about the R1 but I've had great results on all the above games at max settings! Love my 14x R1 forever!

its just exaggerating really.. my desktop gpu doesnt even get that much at times.. 480 gtx with i2500k theres no way a lappy will get constant 90-100.

Disagree with the above poster. My R1 i'm about to ebay gets higher frame rates in diablo 3 (constant 80-100fps) fully maxed at 1366x768 than the new R2 I received. Reason? Driver most likely. The 6xx series for notebooks is new and the driver development still in its infancy. Give it a few months and Im sure it will run diablo 3 at higher rates. If your playing at 900p native then sure, you may not get 100fps. Diablo 3 is not really that demanding of a game IMHO. Cheers

SWTOR and D3 play great. I can run both at max settings at 1080p.

I get about 50 FPS in d3. I am not so sure about the fps in SWTOR, but I am not having any issues.

    Hi all,

can someone who is playing swtor mention how it goes in PvP? On my current laptop (not alienware yet) I am having 60fps on fleet, but it drops to 10 in warzone. GT650m should deal with it without issues I guess, but I am rather asking :)

Thanks in advance for more info

Diablo 3 gets a decent framerate at 1600x900 with max settings on my R2/650M, but still feels laggy (even with a low ping to the server). It is still playable, but the experience does leave something to be desired when compared to even my old 8800GT desktop. I believe this is driver related. Dropping graphics settings does not resolve this issue. The latest nvidia drivers do not support the 650m at this time.

Geforce 650m Driver, Where? - NVIDIA Forums

Your framerate drops in SWTOR PvP are most likely CPU related. Have you watched your GPU usage with Afterburner or a similar utility? I'm willing to bet that it drops off as your cpu becomes bottlenecked.

I get 50-60 fps constant on high with V sync on and no shadows on Diablo 3 and I get. I get 60 fps constant on WoW with everything on high and shadows on good.

Hmm again there seems to be a bit of a variation from 80-100 to 40-60 fps. Either way though, id be fine with just 50fps after playing with 8-20fps on low graphics on my outdated m11x

It's a huge disappointment for me with diablo III though

    I am using
    m14x_R1
    i7-2630
    8gb ram 1666Mhz
    1.5 GT555M
    Stock HDD

Patch patch 1.02a, I got very very bad framerate. Even with low resolution, 1xxx*768 (couldnt remember), with every other video setting at low or off, I got a low framerate of like 10-30

If I max out the setting, the game would just like freeze or run below 10fps.

I heard Nvidia GT555m is behind this all these nonsense.. -.-"

Upgrading to SSD this evening to see if it helps ...

I heard it's more to the graphic.
Even laptops from other brand that are using Nvidia GT555M suffer this plague -.-"

I just received my SSD yesterday. The M4.
Did a fresh installation and an old Nvidia driver for GT555M. Bios I am on A05. With my m14x_R1 now.

After the fresh installation, I installed d3 and surprising the fps is good now. I can't get the exact framerate but I believe it is well above 60fps. Max resolution, high texture. Rest on Low though.

Before my fresh installation on my stock HDD, the framerate was bad, bad bad. Maybe 10fps to freezing moments with low resolutions and everything at low.
