I have an m14x and really like it, save for the weight.
I don't want to go smaller in screen size or lose performance.

Anything else out there worth looking at or is the m14x it?

As cool as both of these are I don't consider them alternatives due to the lack of a dedicated GPU or a good GPU.

I had a new MBA and as light and slim as it is the graphics performance and poor battery life made it a no go for me.

There is a reason why m14x is that heavy, it is for the performance.

Macbook Pro has a 6750m which is a very decent GPU with DDR5 memory.

The HP DV6t Quad Edition is virtually identical in performance, is cheaper, and comes with a better screen.

Link: HP Official Store — Buy and Customize your dv6 and dv6tqe series PC direct from HP
This is a link to a configuration that includes one upgrade:
    - The 1920x1080 display.
Use this as your base model and don't downgrade the display. The screen is the most important upgrade because it affects everything you do. 1366x768 in 15.6" makes things onscreen big and doesn't easily let you fit more than one window onscreen. Only get this laptop if you can get the 1080p screen, otherwise it's not really worth it.
Then use the coupon code NBK85678 to bring it down to $899

Also, the 2GB 6770M upgrade doesn't make any difference. Don't get that upgrade.
