In this review: YouTube - ‪Dell Alienware M14x R1 review‬‏ at 5:20, the guy has his iTunes set up to use the keyboard lights as a visualizer. He says you have to get the LightFX.dll out of the command center and put it in your iTunes folder. I found several LightFX.dll's in C:\Program Files\Alienware\Command Center\AlienFX SDK but I don't know what to use and where to put it. I tried a few but they don't appear in iTunes.

Does anyone know exactly how to do this?

    Copy c:\Program files\Alienware\commandcenter\Media plugin\Itunes\WiTunesAlienFXPlugin.dll to -

    C:\Users\[YOUR PROFILE NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins\

if you can't find AppData just input the info in the search field, eventually you will find it and it will be an empty folder.

Then open itunes and go to VIEW select Visualizer...select Alienware Alien FX. Make sure you click on Show Visualizer. Theres even an option also if you want to mess around with the lighting.

Lol that's my video, but ya do what 8BitZombie said.

Before you open iTunes afterwards though, right-click the alien icon in the tray and click Enable 3rd Party Applications

Thanks 8bitZombie and fred! That worked perfectly! And that youtube video is the best m14x video review I've seen.

How do you get it to switch zones like it does in the video?

Click on Visualizer...below the AlienFX theres an "option" click on that. You will see a drop down on Octave which is like the frequency. You can click on what part of your panel to what color you like. Just repeat on each octave. Then you will see the mix of lights. Enjoy

    Did you restart iTunes?

Also, right click the icon in the sys tray, and make sure you have 3rd party access enabled.

For the m14x, I believe there are files for all WMP, Winamp and iTunes.
Tried on all 3 and all works.
But iTunes works the smoothest for me, with Winamp itself being unresponsive sometimes.

Anyone has any cool setting? Tried mine but, with the area of light here and there isn't that smooth :(

That is not for M14x, it for All others, I think it is because of M14x is too new to be support  .

Anyway, I got it work, what I do is download the command centre from Dell website and reinstall it, and restart.

Then do this steps again: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m14x/581718-lightfx-itunes.html#post7538554

Command Centre can be download HERE: M14x Command Centre

I dont think there would be any setting file but to change the setting in the option menu yourself, right now I'm away from my laptop, and will post my setting in text when i'm back home.

So, mine like is spazzing out. I can see no correlation between what I'm hearing and what I'm seeing. Maybe because it's an m11x?

Try use Winamp instead because iTune is not as good at detecting beat as Winamp plus there is a person named Ingrate who create a plugin specific for the AlienFX Visualization, so if you want a more accurate Visualization then try his plugin, be sure to read instruction carefully otherwise it will not work, any question you should ask on that thread: AlienFX Plugin - Winamp Plugin
