Looking for opinions and any input on whether you guys, or gals, leave your GPU overclock on full-time, or just for gaming?

I just turn it on when gaming. With optimus though it really wouldnt matter, only through HDMI really when the card is used 100% of the time. Or you turned off the Intel GPU in BIOS

Also, bear in mind that overclocking adds an amount of stress on affected components resulting in shorter life.

You can leave it on because optimus wouldn't have your gt555m in use if you're not using it. And even if you're using the gt555m for movies, youtube, or anything else besides hard core gaming, it would cut back the clock speeds to either 51 or 203. But I still take the safe route and only over clocking in demanding games.

I might as well ask the other question I have on this same thread, when using MSI afterburner to overclock, the settings work until I restart my computer, is this just a quark I have to deal with, or is this a well known problem, I checked Google and maybe I just didn't use the right search phrase, but I really didn't find any info or leads.

I'd stay safe and only overclock when needed.

Below where it says "profile 1 2 3 4 5 save" at the bottom of the application window, there is an option to "apply overclocking at system startup". Check that box and problem solved.

I leave it in full time because like other said, that's what the Optimus's job. Beside I only OC those that is a 3D program or games which is auto-set by the OC program and in this case I use EVGA Precision. It's allow up to 10 savable profiles, if there's no 3D program or game is being detect, then it will not OC the GPU however if there is then it will auto-OC it so I dont have to tune it up all the time, so then it will not be OC if not needed. Not sure if MSI have that option or not.

MSI afterburner does allow up to five profiles too.

No I mean if MSI has the auto-OC ability as to EVGA, like I said in my last post it will auto OC if it detect any 3D program or game is running. And for profiling, EVGA allow up to ten savable profile which is five more than MSI.

Well theoretically, it should not matter. Because optimus switches to nvidia only while graphic intensive application. hence no load is being put on the GPU. Plus if you use HWinfo to check the nvidia usage , you would notice that unless you are gaming or using some graphic simulating software, core/memory usage is more like 50Mhz/ 100 Mhz - something like that ( even if you clocked it to 700/1400/1080).

So in general use, it should hardly bother you.

    Ah ok, but that's Optimus's job ;)

I know, but i initially thought that was your question.
