I've got an Alienware 14 (still under warranty) which got dropped about a year ago. At first it would charge to 65-70%, with the occasional 100% charge. Then it dropped to 55%, now the max that I can get it to charge is 40%. I called alienware support and they basically told me I'm SOL unless I send it in to the depot to be repaired...but I'm leaving the country for 6 months in 4 days.

Any ideas? I've tried the desktop charging mode and telling it to charge to 100%, but no dice.

Maybe the battery itself is no good. Did you try running the ePSA test at boot to see if the diagnostic tells you anything about the battery?

You can also try a "power drain" if you haven't already. Disconnect AC power, remove the battery and hold down the power button for 30 to 60 seconds. Connect AC power, boot up the systen, then install the battery. That may fix it if the battery is not bad.
