Today I received in the mail my Alienware M14x and so far I love it. However the driver installation is giving me some trouble. When I originally went to to install the drivers I had downloaded from nVidia's website for the GeForce GT 555M, during the compatibility check I was told that it could not recognize the proper hardware and would not install.

Now at this point the GT 555M did show up in the device manager, though specs programs such as CPU-Z only showed the integrated Intel HD card. When I went to manually update the card's drivers through the device manager by directing it to the driver I downloaded, it told me that the drivers were in fact up to date and didn't need to be installed. However looking at the uninstall programs list the drivers were in fact out of date.

So I figured maybe if I uninstalled the old drivers, Windows 7 would know that the drivers were in fact out of date and let me update them manually. So I uninstalled the old drivers and restarted my computer. However, now the GT 555M no longer appears in the device manager (with a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter in its place), and the nVidia setup still does not recognize the video card and thus I seem to have no way of installing any new drivers and fixing this.

Any help is very much appreciated thanks!

Put your recource disk in the drive and install the drivers.

You cant use the Nvidia drivers from Nvidia, Dell mods them so you can only use theirs.
