Hi! I was playing around with the Winamp plugin for my Alienware and everything was working fine, until one day I closed the Winamp program and turned on AlienFx. The keyboard LEDs turned off and did not respond to change of themes in AlienFx.

I have tried this method: "shutdown your PC. Plug out the battery and power cord. press and hold the powerbutton for about 15 secs. This should reset your alienFX device" (quoting Wattos). Nothing changed and the keyboard LEDs are still off.

    What should I do ?

    Thx :)

Haha, as I said, the problem occured when I turned on AlienFx  I believe the problem lies between where hardware and software connect and the "controller" of that... but where or how to fix that.. I have no idea :s

Since you've tried already to create a new theme and drain power with no results, perhaps you can reinstall the command center. This article has steps to do it correctly.

Hmm, I completed step 10, but cannot go further, because I do not find the "Alienware" folder in "ProgramData". Nor do I find the "Alienware" folder in AppData -> Local :(

That's ok you can skip to the next step, those files need to be deleted if present. Just make sure you have followed the steps in the correct order and if you do see the files, delete them.

The first step, when I try to right click on the AlienFx icon, absolutely nothing happens. If I right click twice AlienFx opens. Any other way of choosing "Go dark" or "Go light" ?

Step 2 and 4, I have already tried, but the BIOS... I have always been afraid of updating it, since there are several risks coming with it. Besides my system is newly built, I received it 7 days ago, so wouldn't a BIOS update be unnecessary?

I think I know what the problem is. Using the Winamp AlienFX plugin, it turns your lights off by default when you turn it on. In order to get the lights flashing, you need to create a theme for it AND have a song playing. If nothing is playing = no lights. Here is my youtube video which shows how all my lights are off because I haven't started the song yet, then the lights turn on because I play the song.

How to add a light theme:
You have to go into the 'Configure' option for the AlienFX Visualization plugin. Click 'Add' (when you open the plugin) and assign the different zones that are in your laptop to random or a specific color, and include which winamp bands it will correspond to. Next, just play the song and move the dials up & down to get the feel for it. After a few tries you'll understand it. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response :) But as I've said before, the problem lies in Command center and the hardware of the system. I currently have Winamp on and everything is fine: the LEDs light up according to my configuration. The problem occurs when I turn off Winamp, the LEDs freeze. When I turn on command center, the keyboard- and Alienware logo- LEDs go out.

In the beginning I didn't have any problems with it. I turned off Winamp, opened Command center and changed themes. However the problem I am speaking of above suddenly occured.

I am thinking, since Winamp is the root of the problem caused, would it help to remove the plugin and winamp?

Thanks for your responses! I fixed the issue by simply resetting the computer to factory settings :)

Good Idea restoring to factory settings. We were trying to troubleshoot so it didn't get to that point but it seemed it was the only way and I'm glad it worked for you. Alien Respawn is the easiest way to restore.

That's probably a software glitch with the Winamp. Now you know not to use a cheap program like that on your pretty Alienware.
