On my screen I can see outlines of the keyboard keys and partially from the touchpad. I think the luminous chemical stuff has rubbed off on my screen. A Dell tech told me this could not be cleaned off. I am incredibly careful with my machine and have never applied what I consider excessive force to the lid so this must happen quite easily.

    Anybody else have this issue?

Dell, y u no use rubber feet to prevent this!?

Sometimes excess pressure when carrying it around may leave a slight outline of the keys in the screen, if you constantly move it around in a backpack you should try to get a screen protector to help avoid any further marks.

Thanks Luis but at this point it is too late, luckily they are only noticeable when the screen is off. Still, I really don't think we should have to buy additional accessories to prevent this kind of thing when much cheaper alternatives use the innovative and effective rubber feet to prevent this sort of thing. If anything the screens should come pre-protected if Alienware thinks rubber feet don't match the design!

I have never been rough with my laptop, my old one I carried around for 4 years in a backpack and I never got any scratches on the screen, maybe the official alienware sleeve I carry it in is too tight :-/.

Does anyone know what the luminous paint is made of, maybe i can find a solvent that will remove it if I know its chemical makeup?

    Luminous paint?

They use LEDs to light up the keyboard, not luminous pant.

This is not an uncommon occurrence with a number of laptop designs. In the quest to make them as thin as possible the clearance between the keyboard and the screen becomes ever smaller and thus you can get slight rubbing in transport. The nice thing about the Alienware design is that the screen bezel/cover takes the wear rather than the more costly LCD. Change the cover and the screen looks like new again. People that are aware of this possibility often place a thin mousepad or a microfiber cloth between the keys and screen when on the go.

It might be possible to polish it out with some plastic scratch remover like people use on cell phones.

or it might make it look worse.

I am aware the LEDs under the keyboard light up but the white stuff around the keys and the touchpad light up too and seem to receive the light from the LEDS, I assumed it was paint since it is not the whole key that is rubbing off on the screen but just the edge where the White stuff/paint/unknown substance is.

Thanks for the tip havoc but I don't think they are scratches, I feel like there is something on top of the screen rather than something that etched the screen. Good to know I can just replace the bezel though ;)
