I was finally able to successfully return my M17x without a restock fee, due in large part to some kind of "paypal" loophole. According to the rep I spoke with today, Dell has "some contract" with Paypal, and will charge no restock fee for systems purchased using that payment method. Don't know (or really care) if this is actually true, just glad they waived the fee.

On to the good stuff. So I'm trying to configure and save $$ all day on a new M14x, when low and behold, a mountain of these finally showed up in the Outlet. Combine with the latest Alienware outlet coupon, and shazam! I've got a M14x on the way.

    Woohoo!

    Congrats. :)

I've always been leery about buying a scratch & dent without being able to see it.

Usually the scratch and dent items are minor blemishes. The thing is with the Outlet, you can still exchange it for 21 days like a new machine (maybe 14 days, I don't recall), so if you're not happy, just exchange it until you get a decent one. I did that with my M11x, which was total trash the first one I got, and after two exchanges, they essentially sent me a brand new one. It said refurbished on the machine but it was flawless.

I'm just waiting for a $200-$300 coupon though. Hopefully soon. But gotta sell my other laptops first. :(

Welcome to the family! I've gotten about 6-7 lappys from the outlet for my business and they all looked brand new except one. I ordered a m11x R2 on there and as soon as I took it out of the box and opened the screen the hinge popped lol. Got it replaced and it wasn't a big hassle but it made me look over my Outlet purchases a little more.

Thanks all. Yes, if it's any consolation, I thought I was buying a refurb until after I'd finalized the purchase (I'd looked at so many configs). So "scratch and dent" was kind of an afterthought. I do know that scratch and dent can be anything from actual product damage to just superficial packaging damage (box, etc.). I've got no issues in sending it back for an exchange if needed (or at least calling back to get a discount offer to keep it).

I would have waited on a better coupon, but I always wait, wait, wait. I figured I'd just go with it this time. I almost opted for a basic proc, to upgrade later with one of the ES/QS "high-end" CPUs. But for the extra 100 or so, I figured the price was fair enough.

RE: Finding them at the outlet...I, too, had never seen any available there before. Maybe they just started listing them there. You have to dive straight in to what's available, then look to the left for the M14x in the selection box. I didn't see it listed on any of the lead-in pages.

Yeah, I'm hoping by the time I sell my current laptop, that some decent deal will be along. I'd prefer to order new, but refurb is just as good as long as it's a quality refurb.

I found it,thanks for the heads up.I got a refurb a year ago an m11x,It was as nice as my new one.I wouldn't be concerned about dents and stuff, and you can always exchange it,hey they may even give you a new one if you complain enough.A word of caution,Dell support can be erratic to say the least.I'm sure you'll love it though.I do,so far I haven't had a single issue.Good luck, enjoy it.
