Hello Alienware users !!! youguys have helped me in my research for a new laptop, so now my quest is done i just want to say thank you all !!

i just won 4,500$ in a scratch off the other day so i decided to pour some of it into a new portable laptop and i was thinking to buy the MacBook Pro 13 inch but those thing cant even run SCII in mid setting..... so anyway here is my spec for my new M14x

I know you guys going to call me dumb and stuff for ordering too many stuff i dont need... but hey i am taking 3D Art next semester and i am sure ill put all of that to use :D

i also got a good deal by calling they gave me the student discount, the 75$ off, and discover gave me 5% cash back so i guess this is a steal :D

You could have saved on the hard drive and ram and bought them separately.

I'll let the others grill you on on the lack of warranty, and choice of CPU/GPU :p

But hey, congratulations on winning the scratch off.

Ah, I see. What most people on here will tell you is the 1.5GB GPU compared to the 3.0GB is exactly the same in performance, as you will almost never run into a situation where you will need that much memory (1GB at most). As for the CPU, it's bottlenecked by the GPU...so a 2620QM vs a 2820QM will probably produce the same results regardless of what your doing.

Yeah, I changed my order completely when I found that out :p

Im here just to say congrats and I hope you make the best out of your M14x!

It's a beautiful laptop... battery life is amazing..... Has some minor flaws but hey, it's a new notebook and some bios fixes are on the way!

Just keep an eye out on these forums and you shouldn't have a problem keeping up the the latests info on your M14x.

PS: You should definitely think of investing in an SSD ;)

Yes it's a huge difference between the two. The Vertex 3 utilizes the SATA 3 interface and is considerably faster. The Vertex 3 is also the fastest SATA drive on the planet for the time being: SSD Ranking: The Fastest Solid State Drives - May 2011

But what is the stock drive in the M14x? I've tried searching with no success. It's not that I'm considering the upgrade (I already have a Crucial m4 and waiting for my M14x to arrive). I'm just curious as to what the poor dupes that overpaid for the stock SSD are getting??

Look like the Intel 510 and Crucial M4 are the most cost-feasible for me..I don't feel so bad now :p

Nope, corsair force series 3 rocks on paper and not expensive at all.

Just need to wait for a neutral review to see if it worth buying

The Force 3 should have roughly the same performance as the Vertex 3 (same controller). Difference is that Corsair don't trick and cheat with their capacities... I went with a 256GB Crucial m4 anyway, because the difference in performance isn't huge, but the price difference sure is, not to mention what Dell is charging for the upgrade.

The force 3 is awesome. Maybe instead of an RMA I'll just sell my M4 on eBay and get this one. Or better yet, anybody here interested in a slightly used M4? :p

The difference in real world performance would probably be barely noticeable, e.g. Crucial m4 256GB SSD (C400) Review - Load Times

Keep the m4 and save your money :) Edit: also check the "maintenance" section where the m4 is actually slightly faster in one of the tests.
