    UPDATED US dollars btw

Basically I'm upgrading to a M14x from an old M11x R1 because I was not happy with the performance. People keep saying the M14x is much faster but I don't know which one to get. (Main game I play is D3)

Ok I was looking through the dell outlet site and found some around $889.00 - $999.00. These are all refurbished right? So will these refurbished m14x have SCRATCHES and will look new? (I bought a ipod from ebay once and it was refurbished and it had tons of scratches) I don't care about getting new since refurbished ones are fine with me

Ok so basically how much difference of the performance of the R1's and R2's? And what about the i5 and i7's? I don't care about battery life, as long as the performance is at it's best.

Do you guys recommend buying a R2 with i7 or are the R1's i5's almost identical with the R2's?

Juggar mentioned the 25% off but sadly they are expired

I was looking through the dell outlet and found this
    Dell Factory Outlet: Error

The 889 one and the 999 one are similar and doesn't show much of a difference, so should I get the 889 one and ask dell for a 25% off?

And also is this true? "While the predecessor's GeForce GT 555M came up short in some newer games, the new GeForce GT 650M remains completely unfazed and delivers 60% higher frame rates on average"

Diablo 3 had major slowdowns on my M11x R1, would I be better off getting the R2 or R3?

    Intel® Core™ i7 2670QM 2.2GHz
    1.5GB DDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M

    That's an R1.

Personally, I like to own brand-new stuff.

Hell no that's not a good deal. Sign up for coupons from dell outlet. The coupons are usually 25% off and I got a refurb M14x R1 with core i5 2430m, Gt 555m 3 gig DDR3, 750 gig 7200 RPM HDD, Killer 1103 wireless, 1366 x 768 and the rest is standard. Now I got that for $651 total after coupon! Standard shipping is free BUT call them and say he can you expedite that to next day please? They will almost certainly say yes no problem and that is a 60 or 70 dollar option(next day shipping)! So if I take that out of the 651 i paid then its like I paid $581!
You can find some model with the i7 2nd gen quad core for about 900-1000 so with 25% off code thats 650-750 total and of course you can call and get the free next day shipping!

I ordered mine very early on Thursday(1 a.m.) and received it 1 PM Friday via next day air!
Also the M14x has 2.1 speakers and this means it has a small subwoofer and let me tell you it is the loudest laptop I have ever heard! Phenomenal sound output and quality. Granted I may have an i5 but its more than enough for the Gt 555m I have so no worries there. You will only want the i7 if you run games such as starcraft 2 but the i5 works great for BF3 and bad company 2.

Also, you get 21 days return policy no questions asked and a 1 year dell warranty!

My best advice would be to look into the dell outlet coupons and order one fro m there.

here is the link to dell outlet for M14x : Dell Factory Outlet

here is the info for the 25% off but im sure it will happen again soon: EXPIRING Dell Outlet Home Coupon Codes 25% off Alienware Laptops, Desktops, XPS 14, 15, 17

don't touch my links mods! im being a productive member!

I'm looking for a m14x i7 R2 and always get confuse from Craigslist ads. What's the best way to know if it's an R1 or R2? I found a guy thats selling for $1000 for an R2, should I just buy it through dell refurbished? I'm planning to spend about 950 max

    Is this an R1 or R2? Amazon doesn't say. There's a $999 one and I have a $20 coupon

The R2s have 3rd generation processors:

    i7 3610
    i7 3720
    i7 3820

The R1s have 2nd generation processors

    i7 2630.

Also, the video cards are different. R2s have the Nvidia 650M.

For a 1,000 dollars you could almost get a brand new one yourself. I'd look into the information that juggar has provided.

If you confuse which is which, then Just remember, that the R1 has Sandy Bridge CPU (i.e 2630QM, 2760QM or 2860QM), and a GT555M. While the R2 has Ivy Bridge CPU (i.e 3610QM, 3720QM, 3820QM) and a GT650M. And ignore the rest.

Yes, you can easily tell by the CPU and video card like alienowl said. and for 1000 Im sure you could haggle a bit with dell over the phone to get a completely new one with 3rd gen i5 for 1000 shipped with next day delivery.

    just call their sales department.

    Updated OP

I called for a R3 i5 new and they gave me a quote for
student discount the subtotal comes to $1077.02 free shipping and tax is $100.24 for a total of $1177.26

I asked for R2's and they do not have any

and as for R1, they won't take the discount code I gave them since it's expired.
how often do these coupons show up? Do I have to wait a month? The codes expired yesterday =/

For the 1000 you guys said I could get, did you include the tax and everything? what is the total of everything?

I took advantage of the 25% off coupon and managed to get an M14x for $697 after tax. I opted for the free shipping option. The specs that I got are as follows:

    900p Screen
    Intel Core I7-2630QM
    8gb of Ram
320gb (will be swapping out for an ssd)
    555m with 1.5gb

Certified Refurbished systems will look Brand New and they also come with a 1 year warranty. At $697 I think this is a great deal. If you're not in a hurry just wait for another coupon.

There will be another coupon soon. I think its about monthly but you can sign up somewhere from the dell website for the coupons. Also, if you are a student you might be able to take 200 dollars off due to the program that microsoft runs. The deal is that that comp has to cost 699.99 before taxes and you get a free 200 dollar egift card to dell. They did go ahead and apply that to my 2500 dollar order so they may or may not give you a discount on a 1000-1100 dollar computer. There is a thread that focuses on how to haggle with dell sales reps. I suggest you take a look at it and try again because apparently people have got up to 20% off an order. If they cant take off money ask for a gift card, Backpack or other items.

    the thread is here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/456885-aw-dell-ordering-advice-how-save.html#

Someone has a "new" i7 R2 for $1000 on craigslist, is that better because of no tax?
