Hi guys
I have been getting temperature issues of late (hitting 85-90C, avg 75) and figure i should do something about it.
I've only had the laptop for 2 months and get the 'default' 1 year warranty with it. Would a repaste be covered under dell warranty? I would prefer not to do it myself as it goes well beyond anything iv attempted before...
If it isn't covered, could anyone direct me to an instructional video on how to firstly clean the fans with compressed air and secondly do a repaste on an m14x r2?
Thanks in advance!

Good luck - I went round in circles re: this issue...

Hi laz91,
the teardown process is a bit difficult for someone who never did something like that before since the M14x is not that easy compared to many other notebooks i have done it with. And if Dell know about you have done it by yourself your warranty voids immediatly so just dont tell them.
Here is one of the best teardown guides i know of and its even from notebookreview:

Dont be shocked about the crap thermal pads Dell uses for CPU and GPU all other brands are no better trust me. Id recommend you to use MX-4, 2 or Arctic Silver 5 its easy to apply / remove for you and has waaay better performance than Dells standard Grease pads.
Good Luck -

Hi, I'll leave an a rticle to monitor the temps on a regular basis and tips to keep them under control. As HansTee said the tear-down process can be a tricky if you don't have the expertise or tools, so be careful while doing that. The warranty won't be voided if no parts are physically damaged during the process. I'll leave you another article that you may find helpful and a link to find the service manual so you have useful guides.
How to remove the thermal module on the Alienware M14x R2 -
Pretty sure its always been that way
First thing I have done on all my aliens is to repaste em. -
As the rest have said, Alienware is gracious with its warranties in that any user servicing is completely warranted so long as nothing is damaged, but the M14x is such a compacted and vertical notebook (components are stacked on top of each other) unlike a larger machine that accessing any components beyond the battery, memory and hard disk is ridiculously difficult, by standards.
But if you are willing to go to the trouble, yes, you can repaste it without repercussions, or even get a Dell technician to do it for you (or so I'm told). -
Dell in Germany only lets the Users replace RAM, SSD/HD or the Battery if you do any other parts they tell us that the Warranty is voided. Maybe its different in other countrys. Im pretty sure its even in the buying contract that im only allowed to change the mentioned parts.

Last I checked, Alienware warranties are more or less more generous than the warranty applied to regular Dell notebooks which are as HansTee describes. Or, it really could be regional, as HansTee also suggests.
But HansTee owns an Alienware, so... -
Thanks for the responses everyone - decided i wont try this myself; not because i dont think im capable but just because im too damn scared haha
