    Hello,

I bought an M14x R1 in late 2011 with the stock Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN wireless adapter installed. I would like to replace it with the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 adapter, but am having trouble finding compatibility information re: the M14x and aftermarket wireless upgrades. I assume the card is compatible with my machine.

Also: I know the Ultimate-N 6300 has an extra antenna. What does this mean for me trying to install it in my M14x?

tl;dr - Is the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 wireless adapter compatible with the Alienware M14x R1 (late 2011)?
If compatible, what difficulties (if any) will I encounter during the installation process?

    Thanks!

it certainly is. I had a 6300 in my r1 without any problems. however shortly after putting the 6300 in I was able to find a killer 1103 which is in my r1 now. The killer is a better card in virtually every aspect except lack of wireless display compatibility, which sucks imo. Whichever card you decide to go with, make sure to get a 3rd antenna. I used apple ones i got on ebay and put it behind the grill/light.
to clarify, the Intel 6300 is a very good card, it just gets its lunch money taken by the killer.

    I couldn't agree more.

I think it's more of a personal choice rather than tech specs. If you plan to use the laptop mostly to play games then without a doubt you'll want to get the killer card, but if you'd rather have WirelessHD then the intel 6300 is the way to go.

I got the killer because I don't mind plugging in a HDMI cable when I want to use an extra screen and would rather have faster response times.
