    1. Get the update file from Nvidia and run it so it unpacks everything you need to install the driver (You've done this)
    2. Go to this website: NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com and scroll down to NVIDIA driver 270.61 WHQL (not Quadro). Select your operating system (probably Windows 7 64-bit) and then click the green "INF Modified" link to download nvwi.inf
    3. Go to whichever folder everything was unpacked to in step 1. Somewhere in that folder (or one of its subfolders) is nvwi.inf. Replace that inf file with the one you downloaded in step 2
    4. From the folder everything was unpacked to in step 1, find the "Setup" application and run it. This runs Nvidia's driver update application, and the inf file you replaced will now allow the application to recognize your graphics card and update.
    5. Enjoy!

The error occurs because Dell does something with the graphics card and releases their own drivers for it. The modified inf file makes the Nvidia application think you're using a regular GT 555m instead of a Dell-branded one.

well, I downloaded the driver from nvidia and got the modified inf file, but I cannot find any inf file in the 270.61 I downloaded. Very frustrating. Not sure what I am missign here.

    Just to clarify, I:

    1. downloaded driver from NVIDIA
    2. ran the setuo, the files were unpacked and then I got the error message you expect.
    3. downloaded the ini file
    4. went to nvidia directory and cannot find the inf file to replace

hi bud, dont run the setup, extract the file, and then go into the display.driver directory(path from memory so may be slightly wrong).

In there you will find a file called nvwi.inf, overwrite it with the one from laptoptogo site and then run the setup.exe from the root directory of the extracted files.

Well I was able to extract the nvidia driver I dowloaded, but still cannnot find the inf file I need to replace anywhere. Clearly I am missing something somewhere. so frustrating as this sounds like it shouldn't be tough at all.

just to clarify guys, you need to download the .61 driver, NOT THE LATEST ONE.

Grab this one and the associated inf and all will be fine

I installed the latest nvidia driver with the custom inf file from laptopvideo2go and haven't ran into any problems...

I also have it overclocked with msi afterburner...

of course! are new drivers, so it is "supposed" to improve the performance of the GPU

TrackMania Nations had a few issues with the old drivers. Timers and menu buttons would just be made bigger at higher resolutions and not actually processed at the high resolution. They were super blurry, and some of the buttons were unintelligible. They work properly with the new drivers.

The old drivers were getting me about 600 frames per second in Half-Life 1 with all settings maxed at 1600x900. I should check to see if that's improved. I could always use more frames... :D

lol. I just saw this thread. After typing up a long post on modded INF usage, I wanted to provide an example so I did a quick tweak to the 270.61 INF for use on the M14x (just added the DeviceID entries). When i first checked LV2Go's modded INF, I did not see any of the entries for the M14x GT555M GPU. hahaha. What I get for not looking at it closely.

Oh well. In case anyone is interested, my quick mod INF is here -
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...atus-gpu-driver-updates-m14x.html#post7487927

Also, for what its worth, you 14x owners can also try out the M17xR3 NV 460 Dell Driver. The INF includes the GT555M info.
