Felt like a bit of a rant, currently on my second m14x which is going back on wednesday.

Is it just me or has Alienware gone down the pan, i've been an AW customer for a few years, but dell have ruined it, just feels like a sticker now, my old Aurora M9700 felt faster than the m14x and thats old tech by todays standards.

First m14x had a dent on the lid (pointing upwards) looked like a zit, second one which i knew from reading on here had a loud fan which i thought i could live with but it's not just loud i thought it wanted to fly back home (China not space).

On top of that the battery is just pure rubbish, i read people saying they had good battery life, the last two i had were about an hour and half, light use.

Shoddy bios update, i thought the whole point of ditching the m15x was to improve portability while gaming seen as this is a gaming machine.

    Crap graphics card.

Don't get me wrong Dell do offer some good products, i also ordered another m11x as i think they are amazing and a great price, but i think my relationship with dellaware is over.

Can i recommend the m14x, i can so long as you meet the following.

    - Do not expect to game without being plugged in.
    - Don't turn it on in public as people will get blown away and not by the looks but by the fan noise.
    - Be happy to add 50 to the order for all of the tech support calls your going to make.

All i can say is good luck to anyone who buys an m14x, i envy the ones that stick with it, i can't stand the thing, ok rant over.

Sounds like you've had a bad experience to the max!

From what I have gathered so far (I dont own a M14x) the fan noise is a matter of what you are already used to. My XPS 1340 is a relativly quiet laptop until I start (trying) to game on it, then it kicks up a bit but never to the levels I would consider annoying. But my missus disagrees! Her Toshiba craptop barely kicks in, Facebook doesnt use that much CPU/GPU!

I must admit i've always been fussy about fan noise, i've probably spent hundreds on making my desktop quiet, trying loads of cases.

So i guess that maybe more opinion based, i think i fell in love with the first m11x i had, maybe if i went straight to the m14x i'd feel different.

It's stories like this I've been reading that the M14x has its troubles.....

I've been looking and such for a few weeks now & after reading some of the horror stories I may reconsider my decision on Alienware and go the Digital Storm route.....

As I said with everyone who returned their Atrix:

Don't let the door hit you on the way out

(What did you want, a pat on the back?)

I constantly get 5 plus hours of battery life. Portable gaming on decent settings doesnt really work that well. Requires to much power.

No way can you get ~1:50 in star craft 2. Even on power saver the m14x is likely burning through ~60 watts per hour in that game. With a 65W battery I can't see it running much more than an hour.

Unless of course you were using Intel graphics @ 800x600 res or something...

you can do it if you use the IGP... you will get about 2 hours... I play LoL from time to time on bat and it shows around 2 hours on batt... there are always things that can change this though based on what you are runing in the background.

I for one have never been happier with my M14x this is my 7th comptuer/laptop and it's above and beyond what i wanted.. and fyi this is my first Alienware, and for people you hate, my second item from Dell.
