Does anyone else got 96° of temps in the cores of the cpu and 93° of the gpu playing BFB3?

    Turbo Boost disable
    Not oc on cpu
OC gpu: core clock 765, shader clock 1530 and memory cloc 1080

    Driver: 285.62, P08 (from dell.com)

I send you my best regards.

PS: Playing with the predetermined specs of High. Online.

Yes I use to not long ago, but someone here, forgot his username, recommended I get some compressed air and blow it on the rear vent, while the bottom panel was off.

Well I went from 95's and up to no more than 85's while playing BF3, Mass Effect 3 for, hours straight....

I'm sure your fan is full of dust....And that is whats causing the extreme temperatures.

I think you'll need a repaste of the thermal compound or a can of compressed air would also do the trick, because turbo boost off, low OC on the GPU, shouldnt give you that kind of temp. I used to get around like 99C on the Core 1 of the CPU and between 97C-98C across all the other 3 cores, 89C on the GPU once but that was like nearly 10 months ago, when I play BFBC2 with the Turbo Boost on. But after I called Dell to do a thermal compound repaste, clean the fan and get a cooler, my CPU temp never go above 75C and the GPU will max between 65C-70C.

So what I suggest you to do is try clean the dust out of the fan with the compress air, and have something to elevate the laptop something like a book or a LEGO block would also do, alternatively get a cooler if you dont have any of those I suggest, and lastly you can do a thermal compound repaste or call Dell to have them do it for you.

    Steps to lowering temps:

1 - Purchase a can of compressed air for 5$ and clean your fan area.

2 - Purchase thermal paste. IC24 is recommended and can be purchased on ebay for 20$. This will lower temps by about -10c.

    3. Purchase a cooler:

So if you combine all the above and spend about 60-70$ overall, you'll lower your temps significantly.

Thanks to all of you dudes, I really appreciate your help.

But, I have some questions. I talked with Dell and they told me that there's nothing wrong with the machine, that it runs hot and that's all. So, they'll not made me the repaste or something to my poor M14x. So, these are the questions:

How can I repaste the cpu? I know a few things about PC but I'm not an expert and where I live there are a few who knows about it. So, can I repaste by my self? is hard to do it? In other hand, Dell will make it for me if I pay for the service?

Thanks again guys, you're very helpful!!

One thing I forgot to tell you, is that if you ask them straight on for a repasting job, then the No will be 90%, you just have to force them, however for me I didnt because after that one time 99C temp, it never happen again because I temporary fix it by having a cooler and turbo boost off, they do the repaste job for me, because I broke the iGPU display instruction in BIOS which lead to a disabled LCD screen.

So basically you may have to make up a story that sound serious that they will send a technician to do a repasting, something like telling them that a repaste job would fix the problem would do, because the laptop run hot yes, but it shouldnt be as hot as 95C+. For the manual repaste job, you can refer to this disassembly/teardown guide for more info: Alienware M14x Disassembly/Teardown and Upgrade Guide!, If you have any more question, you should post it there.

If you do get a Dell tech to come to your house, I'd recommend purchasing GOOD (IC24 from ebay for 20$) thermal paste in advance and once the tech shows up, just tell him to use the paste you purchased instead of Dell's. The paste provided by Dell is cheap junk from what I've read in other AW sub-forums. You don't have to tell customer service that you're using your personal paste either, they don't need to know.
