    If he wants to switch the Fxx keys to always work as if he's pressing the "Fn"+Fxx key, he needs to go to the BIOS by pressing F2.

    From there, he needs to go to the Advanced tab and select "Function Key Behavior". The default setting is "Function Key First". He can select the "Multimedia Key First" setting instead.

    This is from an M14x with the A02 version BIOS.

    SWEET! I've wanted this feature in the R1 for so long. Glad that my R2 can do this now.

    to answer the question though, i do not think R1 has this function. I know it's there if you flash to an unlocked bios, but even if enabled on the R1 is does not do anything. dell probably needs to release a bios update to make it work in the R1
