So let me start off by saying the bad things before the good. Ok so I got my alienware m14x with i7 2.0ghz 500gb hard drive and 6gb ddr3 1600mhz ram and 1.5gb gt555m. After about 30 days my alienware broke. By that I mean that the graphics card was not being recognized after a blue screen. I sent it in and they sent it back 4 weeks later (I was pissed) and they didn't even fix the problem so now I'm like fuming so I call and they send a guy to come fix it and now it works like a dream...and here is why I made this post. Everyone says how the m14x might be able to run skyrim on high, well I run it at ultra with EVERYTHING and I mean every single setting includding as at and fxaa and I get an average of 30 Fps and my gout temp never goes over 53C and my could never goes over 80C..I'm like loving this but compared to the other reviews its really very strange...so can anyone tell me whats going? Btw I'm overclocked to 625/915/1250
Thanks in advance :) and any spelling mistakes are cus I'm on myr phone and it does auto corresr

still not as good as my 460m, :p but that's definitely not bad either. I can't say how it compares to another m14x though

O lol well I LOVE my m14x because its small and portable (its not heavy to me cus I do shotuput and discus for track so I'm quite strong) and it runs games at Max and never gets hot

Skyrim runs on my old laptop at high .

The laptop has a Gtx260m ( equivalent of GT555M ) but a 2.3GHZ duo core processor , so i guess your processor should even increase fps.

runs smooth as butter , havent had the chance to download it on my m14x yet.

I got the stock m14x. So i5-2410m and 4gb ram being the biggest difference and I run skyrim everything ultra exept shadows, sky reflection in water and no FXAA (what is fxaa anyways ?) and I average 40 fps. Skyrim isnt super hard on our lappy. im OC at 715/965. My temps on gpu are usually around 65C and 78 for CPU. I down scale the view details by about 1 or 2 points each tho. Still way higher than high.

I think it's normal that you can pull it off all ultra with the quad (altough according to benchmarks it doesnt do much diff with skyrim). Your temps are super low tho , and thats awsome !!

Glad you m14x is working properly :D

Which software are you using to OC the GPU? I asked because with EVGA Precision, memory clock is limited to 1080.

you could try MSI after burner, thats what I use ;) Idk how well it works on the M14x. pretty simple to use though :)

I'm not sure if you're able to adjust the memory clock beyond 1080 due to the MSI OC tool, or due to the fact that you have 460M. I'll try it tonight and find out I guess ;)

the memory clock goes up to 1600MHz at least for me. I don't know if its limited in with the m14x GPU though

For the GT555M, with the MSI Afterburner you can only OC the mem up to 1170, while the core and shader (Without the unlocked VBIOS) can go up to 750/1500 (not sure but it is somewhere at that level), and with the unlocked VBIOS it still limit to 800/1600.

For me I use the EVGA Precision the reason is because with the unlocked VBIOS it allow me to OC pass 800/1600, it allow me to OC up to 945/1890 while the mem limit to 1080, I think it is a trade off for a higher core and shader I guess. And another feature that different from MSI is that EVGA allow up to 10 savable profile while the MSI allow only 5.

My current OC setting are 600/1200/900 when using 2D program, and 850/1700/1080 when using 3D program and at full load. The avg temp is between 65C - 78C on full load/3D prog, and 50C - 70C on 2D prog/idle.

ah makes sense, I'd use the EVGA program too if I was in the same position. :)

I'm pretty sure they are both Rivatuner-based, so they aren't that much different. I can't go past 1625 MHz on the memory on either of them.

the memory clock doesn't help to much with FPS anyway as far as I understand correct?
