I am thinking about selling my M14x to get the new iPad!

I own an Aurora R3 desktop and since I do allot of my work from home I have not been using the M14x very much. It is only 7 months old and I could probably get $1,200 for it. I am really thinking that I could get more use out of the iPad3 as it is much less intrusive to use in such settings as say church (as a Bible) and in the movie theatre, meetings etc.. What do you think. Please, I would appreciate some feedback, thanks!

ipad in exchange for alienware? thats thats the saddest thing i have heard today.

apart from my inherent dislike for the certain fruit, let me be objective ( i will try)

    1) comparing ipad with laptop is not a good idea
    2) granted ipad is little more portable but there is a limit to how much work you can do on it.
    3) you are loosing the alienware factor
4)there WILL be times when you wish you had a laptop with you when you head out.
5)If you really dont use your laptop outdoor often, then ipad is the way to go.
6)if you are really set on selling your laptop, do it while its in warranty to get the maximum return.

People can continue this list and add more points?

I don't have an M14x personally, but why would you go to church or movie theaters to use an iPad 3...?

Why don't you just get a smartphone? I would shake my head if someone was using an iPad at church or the movies. If you need to check a quick email or something of that nature, then a smartphone would be perfect.

agreed with the others... i have/had a desktop, an m11x, m14x, ipad 2 (HAD, got stolen, but i had it for long enough to say how i felt about it), iphone 4 (had, lost it), iphone 4s... i don't think that an ipad is a good replacement for a laptop - it's SLIGHTLY more portable, but i found myself to be barely using it as i have a laptop and an iphone 4/s... if you're only using it for quick, little things, grab a better smartphone as they're AWESOME (iphone 4s is really nifty, LOVE siri cause the voice recognition software is amazing - you can use it for texting and other things on the go)... the ipad is really a moot point when you have a desktop/laptop and a smartphone - get the large and small first and see how you feel before you commit to an ipad 3 (if you have both already, test it out and see how you feel about it... i stopped using mine a couple months after i bought it and after it was stolen... i didn't care so much cause the only thing i regretted losing was the cash value, not the use value).

I have a m18x, iphone4 & iPad3. I also had a m14x which I sold to my brother as a iPad3 with a iPhone4 does everything I need to do on the go and m18x for everything else. The ipad3 is a fantastic product and I'm not a apple fanboy either lol

you already have a desktop. ipad 3 is a lot easier in terms of portability. and the amount of stuff you can do it will do most stuff a laptop does.
plus if you want to use in church i imagine you could sneak an ipad 3 in better than the m14x.

Im pretty sure the Ipad still doesn't support flash player.
Why not sell and purchase a M11x R3.

I've sampled the Ipad before and it is one of the most awkwardly sized products I have tried for all general purpose use.

I also agree with other not because I hate Apple but because of it is like the worst thing I ever heard - selling a superior thing to get an inferior thing. Think of this way, it is like selling a MacBook Pro to get an iPad.

I wouldn't call the heat issues to significant. I have seen tests and it runs only about 10C hotter when stressed. As to buying an ipad to replace a laptop, I don't think its the best Idea. I have a original asus transformer I used to use a lot when on the go or just web surfing and such, but I went back to my laptop because of the larger screen and I can play my games near an outlet. What really put the nail in the coffin is that I got a samsung galaxy s2 that has better performance than my tablet plus its a lot smaller. Now the tablet sits on the shelf waiting to be rooted when I find the time lol

You should just be a good christian and give the laptop to a poor person. :)

It can be really ironic for a M14x user to compalin about a heat issue on ipad3 :)

    I cannot believe this thread!

    An iPad? Really?

If you're going to be replacing your laptop, I can almost guarantee you that you will have regrets after the initial "awe" from the iPAD. When that dies does in a couple weeks of usage, you'll be telling yourself "what the hell was I thinking?".

HAH. An iPad. Sell your M14x and buy the world's biggest freaking gummy bear, but don't get an iPad!

Seriously though, I would recommend NOT getting the iPad 3, no point in getting a larger tablet with the same exact features of a smart phone minus calling. And Apple... ugh. I don't even want to think about it. If you want to be more portable, sell your M14x and get any Windows/Linux ultrabook instead (although if you still want to be able to game, get an M11x).

Thanks for the response, now let me address your points:
    1) I am not comparing the two as I know that a laptop is much more comprehensive a machine, however what i didn't mention was that my wife has a laptop that I can almost always borrow if the need arises.
    2) I addressed this above.
    3) I have an Alienware Desktop, T-shirt, button down shirt and cap :) Plus I kinda wanna experience the Apple-Ipad3 factor!
    4) This was addressed in number one above re: using my wife's ASUS Laptop.
5)This is my point, I thought I would use the M14x to game with more but I really don't. Though this could also be a sticking point as I like to lend it out to friends that come over to game with me...
    6) Yes the warranty is good thru August-2012.

LOL! I go to church and movies, and do not take my laptop as it is not worth the effort to bring it and use it whereas using the iPad would be akin to using an iPhone, which I do not plan on buying so that is not an option :)

Oh and also the Bible aps for the iPad are excellent and not as intrusive as opening and using the laptop.

I did own an M11x (R1), and while it was nice it didn't handle gaming that well and with that small of a screen and my planned usage the iPad is a better fit as well as being cheaper so i could come away with $500 cash :)

you could look at one of the android tablets as well as you get more features for less money minus the less impressive screen. I'd look into the asus transformer prime if you haven't already and see if you like it. :)
