    Hey guys

I just ordered my m14x, and because I'm antsy and impatient I was wondering, how would it compare in gaming performance to my desktop? According to various benchmarks I've seen they should be close, and for actual processing power (CAD work, video editing, etc.) the laptop will be faster.

    m14x-
    Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 2630QM 2.0GHz (2.9GHz w/Turbo Boost, 6MB Cache)
    Memory: 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
Display Panel: 14.0" High Def+ (900p/1600x900) with WLED backlight
    Video Card: 1.5GB DDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M using NVIDIA Optimus™ technology

    desktop-
    Intel Q6600 (3.0GHz)
    4gb DDR2 800MHz
    GeForce 260GTX (192)
    23" 1080p monitor

well from a benchmark standpoint.. this theoretically should hit around a 13k 3dmark 06....

my desktop is similarly specs as yours:

    Q9550
    4gb 1333mhrz
    ati 4870x2
    23" 1080p

    Mine hits 15900

so suffice to say the laptop will not be as good as your desktop but it will be fairly close...

remember this is a 14incher with a way better processor so only time will tell... im sure when someone receives their laptop they will post the results

    I have a very similar desktop (i7 920 @ stock 2.6 / Corsair DDR3 1333 / GTX 260)

My vantage score (no overclock) :

    From pic
We can expect around 5-6K with the GT555M on the same Vantage test, I believe.

Edit: By Vantage, I mean 3DMark Vantage (not to be confused with PC Mark Vantage)

14400 3dmark score for me... So the GT555M not quite as good as the 260GTX. However, they should be practically the same since the m14x only has to push 1600 x 900, whereas the desktop has to do 1920 x 1080

On your m14x? So what about compared to a 260M?

@All - We like to try and compare our notebooks to desktops but it's really not healthy to do so. Why... lets list them.

    1. Architecture -- Desktop CPU and GPU are built a little differently. The focus on notebook is size and energy efficiency.
    2. Space and Cooling -- desktops have the ability to use larger fans and greater spaces for cooling.
    3. MFG costs -- Notebook costs are a bit more expensive due to engineering (development) costs.

    Just to name a few.

That was my desktop score, with 3ghz q6600 and first-gen GTX260 (192 shaders, not 216)

I know a desktop will always be a better value than a laptop. I was just curious if this one will outgun my almost 3 year old desktop.
