I have thrown some relatively older games like Dragon Age: Origins, Fallout: New Vegas, and Team Fortress 2 at this laptop and it runs all of the on high settings without problem (Dragon Age and Fallout in the 40-60 FPS range).

I have upgraded everything on the laptop (3.0 GB NVIDIA GeForce 555m, SSD, 1600x900 resolution, etc.) and am wondering if this computer can be expected to run Skyrim and Battlefield 3. It would be pretty disappointing if I purchased this laptop two weeks ago and it is unable to run these two games at least at the medium settings. I have noticed that this laptop cannot run The Witcher 2 at high at all, so that is why I am asking.

I think the witcher is just a fluke and is probably poorly coded kinda like Divinty 2. Run bad on my desktop 8[. I am sure if skyrim is done right we should be fine. According to EA if you can run BC2 you should be able to run BF3 which looks good to me.

That is certainly good to hear. I have not downloaded BF2 because BF3 is released in a month but I have seen many gameplay videos that show it runs well on this laptop.

Yea I have read that Skyrim is being designed mainly for the xbox 360 (which I do have) but I am traveling abroad very soon for some time and do not know if I will be back when these games come out. Skyrim has a different graphics engine than the Gamebryo that Bethesda used for Fallout/Oblivion (I think) so I was wondering if this can handle it.

I also wanted to see if the graphics were better on the PC than on consoles because I see so many people claiming that PC games are far superior. Of course, I did not go with the m17x or m18x because they are pretty big and I would just get a desktop instead of those (I imagine I would get pretty strange looks taking the m18x out anywhere in public lol).

BC2 runs like a charm with AA lowered to 2-4x, all other maxed out (only not the last option, dunno the name atm). even on my 1600x900. a little OC gets the frames even more up. but you dont rly need it for bc2-

If you OC the GPU, plus lower the resolution from 900p (If this is ur native) to 720p, you might be able to squeeze out some few more fps.

BF3 should run on at least a mix of med/high settings. Skyrim should run fine maxed, just kind of another console port :/ (in terms of graphics)

If Skyrim runs as well as you think then I will be very, very happy. I expect BF3 to be epic in terms of the size of the maps for multiplayer. It is good to see that my new laptop is probably not obsolete just yet :)

On Skyrim, I expect 1600x900, everything on high, and 2x AA with 8x or 16x AF. Dont act like its set in stone though. I can tell you for certain on 11/11/2011 :3 (already have mine preordered on steam)

The modders of oblivion and new vegas expect it to run well if the previous bethesda games ran well. Todd howard said it will not be very resource demanding, he even said that if we have nice hardware the game will take full advantage if that too. He also said that they might make it compatible with dx11, but not on release. Im confident that the m14x will play it beautifully. I really only bought mine for one reason. SKYRIM!!!!!!

A bit off topic, but may I add I bought mine because my G72 would overheat and throttle when gaming to the point where id underclock my gpu and cpu so it wouldnt make the frames drop every 10 minutes to 4fps.

G72 was a great budget machine, but overheating was terrible :(

I couldnt imagine playing Skyrim for 500+ hours on it.
