Whenever I open or switch to iTunes it spins my CD drive, this has only happened to me on my new M14x, does anyone have a solution?

I tried reinstalling iTunes and a bunch of other things that didn't work. I uninstalled Daemon Tools Lite and that seemed to fix it for a while, but then the problem came back. Finally I uninstalled Intel Rapid Storage Technology and I haven't heard the drive spin for at least a week now.

    Edit: Spinning is back :-/

I've had no luck either getting the spinning to stop.

The issue appears to be quite wide spread, in my experience. When on my G73 or my sister's VAIO, an iTunes launch will automatically spin up the disc drive and then inform me that there is nothing there or tell me it cannot read the attached media, despite neither being present. I think it may actually be something to do with the way iTunes is set up to add music to the user's library, with it being set by default to start updating the library as soon as iTunes is launched. In short, I do not believe the issue is isolated to the M14x.

I've only read that if you disable the USB Power Sharing in the BIOS the issue goes away. Haven't tried it myself yet though.

I went into the BIOS and disabled power share, no difference at all. I then re-enabled power share and disabled USB emulation and the spinning is gone for good.

USB emulation allows the laptop to boot from a USB device, if you don't have a USB you need to boot from it seems to me like a good choice.

If I disable it then for some reason I need to boot from a flash drive, will I still be able to re-enable it?

Of course, you can switch it back whenever you like.
