I want to order an M14X but I do not want a QuadCore 45W power hungry processor where most of my applications are only Dual core (35W) optimized.

    How can I order the i5 2540M 2.6GHz processor?
I called in and they said it is not available yet?!?
    Any ideas?

The battery life change will be minimal. I can get up to 5 1/2 hours of battery with the right settings.

you can go out of your way and probably swap it out your self from one you get on eBay or another member on here some where.

But it won't be worth the hassle and I don't think Dell would put the i5 in it for you.

its 45W vs 35W processor, it should give you atleast another 30-45min of battery life.

I hate how they have it in the specs but wont let you customize for it.

Now I am debating M14X or XPS 15z

Thats why processors downclock just change your max processor use to 50 or 75 percent and you will save power as the bottle neck on the pc will usually be the gpu. Just get the 2630 and you will be good.

batterylife is very important for me.

    M14x or the 15z?

If you're hard-set on getting an M14X w/ Core i5, try calling Dell to see if they will configure it for you with that option. You can try chatting up a sales rep as well.

Or you can try ebay :p

I have no idea why anyone would want to put an I5 in the m14x. Most games are becoming cpu intensive and if you need more battery you can always us msconfig to limit your threads at start-up or adjust cpu percentage with power meter.
