I am looking at some point to move up to (13" would be perfect) the m14x. I have had a macbook pro in the past and loved the trackpad and all the multiple finger swipes.

On my m11x there are basically two things I hate. 1. the screen could be better 2. the trackpad kind of sucks, i use the corners of the pad for forward and back - the macbook i could use three finger swipes.

How is the trackpad on this new m14x? does it allow three finger swiping, does it work well? I know that hp envy 14 - which sucks now they got rid of the real nice rgb backlit screen - has a nice touchpad, i think it might even be one of the latest synaptics models without the buttons.

Meh. Its certainly not as good as a MB one. The two finger scrolling could use alot of improvement compared to the apple ones, and its alot smaller. That being said, its better than the textured m11x one, but with about the same response. Final answer: meh, its alright, mediocre.

The trackpad on the m14x is fairly good. The texture is nice, a bit smoother than the chassis finish itself. The buttons are the kind of buttons I like. They're deep travel buttons that don't click, like the keyboard keys almost. But I would have liked a bigger trackpad. It's sized okay, but could have been bigger. It has two finger scrolling like the apple macbook, and maybe a few more like rotation, etc, but thats it. Doesn't have much gestures, and its not the wide vast free space you get from a mac. Whenever I use the m14x right after I use my mac, I'm all over the palm rest of the m14x.

Thanks for the replies. hopefully the next gen of aw laptops have better trackpads...i mean synaptics makes real good ones now, just as good as the apple trackpads.

Its disappointing to see no one can come out with a smaller gaming laptop with a great screen and trackpad in this day and age.

I have both a macbook pro 15", 13" and the m14x can tell you the m14x does not come anywhere close to what the macbooks have to offer.

I usually ditch the touch pad and just use an external mouse. The size of the touch pad + button spongy-ness makes it really unusable for anything but the most simple tasks.

But saying that when are you likey to play games on the M14x track pad ;)

Depends on preference. I like the spongy keys and minimal friction texture. Its nice for web browsing

Can't imagine playing any games besides a turn based or something like civ5 with the trackpad. That said 90% of the time i am surfing the web.
I like the keys in my m11x but the trackpad is atrocious for web browsing. it barely gets the job done. hopefully they can improve on this in the future

Yeah I was always iffy of the m11x track pad. It looks like complete rubber. The m14x trackpad is more like a mac than the m11x. Its a 'slidey' plastic similar to mac's glass

Ahh well if its just browsing then the track pad is ok, just wish it was larger and seamless buttons like the mac :)

Also if your interested the speakers are MUCH better on the m14x compared with either of the macbooks :)
