    How do I know what generation my M14X is?

    I have the 550m. And is there that much of a difference? I only recently got it (in September or October).

    550m, you got the R1, r2 is 650m and just released on April.

    Differences, longer battery life (the only I care about), better graphic cards and such~ check out the forum, theres alot of VS discussion going on.

    If your M14x has the Ivy Bridge (i.e i7 3720QM) + GT650M then it is a R2, if it is a Sandy Bridge (i.e i7 2720QM) + GT555M, it is a R1.

    it also has R2 written on the bottom near the fan if its is an R2
