I've recently been having a problem with overheating. I overclocked my graphics card a while back to 750/1080 but it's only been recently that it's been getting really hot. When i'm playing any game the CPU and GPU both reach constant temperatures over 90 degrees and thats with a cooler under my laptop. When i try to play Skyrim on max settings 900p and low shadow my cpu stays between 95-99 and my gpu stays at 92-95. Even when im watching videos over firefox using the integrated graphics my cpu will hit over 90 and my gpu between 85-90. Is this normal? i'm assuming no.

Btw I'm using CPUID HWmonitor to check temperatures and i have turbo boost turned off

Any suggestions on what i could do to get this fixed?

vents are extremely clean. first thing i checked T.T it's quite irritating. and it's quite weird. Just browsing the net it usually doesn't hit 90 every time i browse the net but once in a while it while which is still odd. I get the feeling that it's something that i installed that's causing the problems but i can't figure out what. It started to happen after i upgraded from 285.62 to 285.79. Thought maybe i installed the drivers incorrectly so i clean installed everything a 2nd time with driver sweeper and it didnt do much

alright so interestingly, i've been browsing my temperatures for the last couple of hours while using the internet and the temperature for cpu now stays between 60-70 and gpu at 60-70 but just 5-6 hours ago it was hitting 90. I read somewhere that setting physX settings to my GPU from autoselect in the nvidia control panel would help and i guess it did a lot but my gpu still reaches ridiculous temperatures of 93-94+ while playing Skyrim for less than 5 minutes T.T

If I had this problem first I would make sure in Nvidia Panel that my browser runs on Intel Graphics (not on auto select). After checking this, if I see the high temps again, I would check in processes for some cpu intensive services, provided you get high temps during browsing.

Did you ever open up your laptop before this started happening? If you removed the heatsink, did you replace the thermal paste correctly?

I have my browser both Chrome and Firefox use the GT555M all the time, but I never get that hot outside gaming. And beside I OC the GT555M even higher than yours (850/1700 during 3D app/game, 600/1200 during 2D app).

To OP I guess the thermal paste on your CPU might gone, try repaste it again, or if not call Dell for help, if possible try have them come to repaste the CPU for you or demand a laptop replacement because on normal web browsing and it get that hot is not common.

what average temperature should i be getting? i changed some settings around and it looks like i get around 70-75 from only browsing. However, is there a reason why my gpu gets so ridiculously hot playing skyrim? or is it just cause the game is so demanding. It gets hot to a point where the fps of the game drops to 10-15

TRY THIS- sorry about the caps, but it really helped me with high temps. High temps, just stopping realtek in the start up msconfig list. It was running excessively and once i stopped it it lowed cpu usage and lowered temps.

The average temp u should get is anything below 90C to 60C, 70-75 is still medium high, as for Skyrim most people here say they have a decent framerate with it, or you can post a question in the discussion thread: M14x Skyrim Performance/Questions/Best Driver/Settings & General Chatter - Discuss Here....

With skyrim I peak at about 80 degrees C as measured by core temp.

My m14x has been repasted with IC diamond.

Even though im no expert at computer, ur temp is kinda high, might wanna contact dell and ask em about it, heres my temp when doing things,
browsing internet = 55 for cpu and 41 for gpu
gaming for 3 hours (skyrim) = 82-85 for cpu and 63-65 for gpu,
