So probably for the past month or two after gaming for 30 minutes up to hours my m14x r1 gets extremely hot the CPU reaches 99c or 98c basically the highest it can go without turning off. I was wondering if I call Dell if they will come do a repaste with it hitting that high, it is quiet uncomfortable touching the keyboard as well when it feels like its on fire.

I'm also using a laptop cooler already.

    Thanks

open it up and spray the intake with compressed air, then call dell and get them to do a repaste, my U2 has already blown a bit of dust into the M14x and it's gone from 65*c playing games at full load to hitting 71 72 and ive only had it two weeks. thats low temp but still, ill probably clean it out in August.

If after cleaning the fans you still get high temps, send us an e-mail to [email protected] with your service tag, name, phone number and best time to reach you and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

I have disabled Turbo-boost and the temp reach 65. 68 is as hot as it can get. I recommend you to disable Turbo-boost in BIOS setting. Hope it work for you.

Guys, the r1 and r2 are totally different machines when it comes to core temps! My r1 would hit 98c when rendering or doing intensive VJ sets. My r2 rarely goes above 70c. They are not all equal!

Same thing would happen to my M11x R1, most of the time it just needs a dusting and compressed air blowout but if that doesn't fix it then they will most likely replace the GPU/thermal paste.

repaste yourself and use IC Diamond or Arctic Silver. I did it on my R2 and its' quieter and cooler.

I used the actual best non liquid compound the Arctic Cooling MX-4 which has the same results as IC Diamond (~1 C difference) and having alot of experience with repasting id say it helps but by far not enough.

Im not using a cooling pad but i put something under the laptop so it has better airflow and no OC at the following temps. (OC makes no difference anyway since the CPU is the problem not the GPU)

    Temps of my R1 after proper repaste : idle 45-55 C / max CPU load 87 C
    (before repaste: idle 50-60 C / heavy CPU load 92-97 C)

    Temps of my R2 after proper repaste : idle 39-50 C / max CPU load 79 C
    (before repaste: idle 45-55 C / max CPU load 84 C)

The GPU of the R2 never goes over 64 C after repaste no matter how high you OC it and for how long. Without OC it doesnt even reach 63 C. At normal gaming it stays below 60 C but the CPU gets up to about 76 C max.

My ambient temps are between 22-25 C at the moment. Sometimes higher cause its summer. In Fall or Winter i guess temps will go down a bit.

I am running at stock settings, and i have also cleaned the laptop from dust.
    Please help...

Nope 87 C is not normal maybe something went wrong while cleaning the laptop. Are you sure its not the CPU that is running at 87 C?

    That's a bit high.

When I first got my M14X it ran at 79c max on high settings BF3.

Cleaning the insides of your system with a compressed air can and getting Dell to re-paste it if you'e not comfortable doing it yourself is recommended.

Then go call Dell for an On-Site Service. The max temp of the GPU shouldnt reach more than 65 C max. The CPU on the other hand can reach high 90 C+ in the M14x R1 without a problem and its normal for this system.

For example playing games like TSW which are extreme demanding doesnt let me reach a higher temp than 64 C on the GPU. Ok this is after repasting it but before it was maybe 1-2 C more.

I bet something is wrong with your heatsink. Whats your CPU temp btw? It should be even way higher when the GPU is even that high.
