Help! Updated drivers via Dell, somewhere along the way Aero is gone, won't run. Upon start up, get message saying "DWM.exe has stopped working and has been closed/ A problem caused the application to stop working correctly, windows will notify you if there's a solution."

Troubleshooters say DWM is not activated, services say it's running, so i restart it, immediately i get the same error message. So DWM will not run and is not running in task manager. The file is still in System 32.
My drivers all say they're up to date, i don't know what to do.' Im desperate, i'm stuck on pale blue windows, limited themes.... out of options, and i've tried all the normal go to fixes. I hope someone can help or has heard of this. I'll post my stats below, if anyone wants to see anything further just ask......

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me.

Yeah that's the first thing i thought of, but for some reason my restore was turned off, i didn't do it, looked like alienware software had it off for some reason. i turned it on. I've done pretty much all the normal quick fixes, and nothing, scans say nothing. i've narrowed it to the fact that dwm.exe crashes everytime i try to restart it. if it would run, aero and everything else would be fine. so someting i did while updating drivers is keeping it from being able to run. i just messed up and did too much at once, now i have no clue what is causing it and am afraid of rolling half my OS back and making things worse. i was hoping someone might be able to look at the event log and decipher what is causing this. i'm fairly good at figuring things out as far as common issues go, but the error language is beyond my capabilities.....

I have the same issue. It's nothing you did. easiest thing to do is Start>Right click Computer>Manage>Device Manager>Display Adaptors>Right Click the Intel card/Properties>Driver Tab>Click Rollback Driver.

This way you wont lose half of your OS on a restore. After you have done this, Right click the Intel card/Properties again>update Driver. This will install a half way between the newest and your original driver and you Aero will still work.

It is what I did with having the same exact issue as you. Hope I could be of assistence. :D

I would just reinstall the O.S. It'll save you more time.
