    Hello all!

When i plug in my m14x r1 via hdmi into my samsung 50" fhd plasma tv, i`ve noticed some very annoying screen flickering.
I use the tv as an external monitor and the native resolution 1080p.

Also 5.1 is not adjustable in nvidia hd audio altough my tv supports dolby on every other components i`ve plugged in.
Drivers are all up to date.

    Any solutions?

    Thanks for help!

Does the screen on the computer flicker? Its probably the cable.

As far as 5.1 surround.. use the Sound Blaster control panel maybe?

5.1 won't show up in the control panel, but it will output if a 5.1 source is available.

Windows Playback Devices > TV Speakers > Supported Formats

It should list 2ch and Dolby Digital.

However, unless your audio receiver supports 5.1 LPCM, you won't get 5.1 in most games as most output in uncompressed LPCM. The R2 has a sound card capable of encoding into Dolby Digital, the R1 doesn't.

My plasma Screen is flickering, the cable is new.
As for the sound, even my sat Receiver can send 5.1 via HDMI.
    Why the r1 can't?

The R1 can send 5.1 via HDMI.

    How is it connected?

    M14x > HDMI > TV > HDMI > Audio Receiver?

You'll only see a stereo option in playback devices for your TV though, 5.1 won't appear as an option - it's passed through. If you check the properties it should list 2ch stereo and Dolby Digital under "Supported Formats".

BUT, this will only work with a Dolby Digital 5.1 source. For example, a video file with 5.1 channel sound played in MPC HC or VLC will output in 5.1 - even if it only lists stereo in the configuration settings for the speakers.

However, for PC games, most output in uncompressed 5.1 LPCM - this is not the same as Dolby Digital 5.1 that a console game or DVD outputs in. So, for 5.1 in most games to work, your audio receiver and TV must be capable of LPCM 5.1 passthrough.

If you have a 5.1 LPCM passthrough capable receiver and TV but have it connected as

    M14X > HDMI > TV > S/PDIF (Opitcal) > Receiver

then you still will not get 5.1 LPCM because S/PDIF doesn't have enough bandwidth for uncompressed LPCM 5.1.

So if your receiver and TV doesn't support LPCM 5.1 passthrough or your receiver is connected to your TV via S/PDIF, you'll need a soundcard for your M14x R1 that is capable of encoding it to Dolby Digital or Dolby Live.

The M14x R2 comes with a Creative Sound Blaster Recon3Di High-Definition as standard which, I think, encodes to Dolby Digital.

    M14X > HDMI > TV > S/PDIF (Opitcal) > Receiver

These are my settings. I didn't knew about the different 5.1.
    Thanks for clear up!

Ahh, so there's one problem and possibly another.

With TV > Optical > Reciever:

But this doesn't matter anyway if the receiver doesn't support it in the first place.

I'm pretty sure Creative do an external sound card that's quite cheap and that it encodes audio to Dolby Digita/Dolby Digital Live.

Should be pretty easy to find in their website and you'll be all set :)
