Can anyone point out the biggest differences between the two? Were any M14x owners considering the Envy 14? If so in the end what made you decide on the M14x over the Envy 14?

If you're talkin about the currently available envy 14, the m14x is more powerful in everyway. If you mean the refreshed version coming in june, I'm pretty certain the gpu will not be comparable (m14x gpu will be better).

The envy 14 no longer offers a res higher than 1366x768, either.

The Envy 14 will most likely have a 6770m inside of it which will be about the same as the 555... will it be underclocked again though?... I guess we will not find out til after June 15th.

And big note is the fact that currently there is no word on the Radiance screen coming back which means it will have the same screen and specs of the dv4 with the Envy look.

M14X all the way. Without the Radiance Screen, the Envy 14 isn't any good.

On top of that, next-day on site warranty >>>>> repair depot.

Good points. I did not realize it did not offer the 1600x screen I would def go with the M14x in that case.

Without the radiance screen, or at least the ability to mod the radiance in, the performance will be very similar to the dv4.

If a 6770 is put in, and it isn't underclocked, it could actually beat the m14x out (considering the 6770>555gt by like ~1-5%)

But how does the 6770 overclock in comparison to the 555m?

Yeah. The M14x has better GPU, speakers, processor and those unique AW features like lighting, nameplate, etc.

I skipped it over for the very same reason, radiance screen was a must. Nearly ended up with the beats edition but credit card stopped transaction thinking it was fraudulent.

So glad......................he says rubbing his m14x.

And this is why Alienware has so much money.

Anyways, if the Envy 14 DID get the 6770M in June, would it then make a suitable competitor to the m14x?

I plan on getting a 14 inch notebook to be my main gaming pc for at least 4 years or so. Would it be enough?

To play devils advocate (just a little!), the Envy 14 will offer better performance in gaming at the native resolution (at 720p) without the 16x9 option.

    Something to think about.

I'm with Voodoo and Croatoan..without a higher res screen, Envy 14 is a no go.

Also, if your a gamer, a higher resolution is always a huge bonus. Many fps/rts games offer you a larger field of vision relative to your resolution setting, so it's really a great advantage.

I HIGHLY doubt the Envy 14 revision is getting the 6770 chip.

I see there is alot of people looking to see a comparison between these 2 machines. One of my roommates has the envy 14 beats edition, I'll compare it with the m14x and take some pics.

I think most of us are interested in comparing the m14x with the refreshed Envy 14 coming in June.

    I also doubt it'll have the 6770...maybe the 6750.

I think it will have the 6770, the dv6 has the 6770, if a "consumer" laptop has a good card then the "premium" one MUST have a similar or more powerful card.

Well the build quality of the Envy is better, for one thing. The Alienware looks nice, but there isn't a great deal of attention to detail... The squeaky keyboard, the way my mouse button wobbles, the screen isn't particularly sturdy, etc.
