So i clumsily tripped over the charger of my m14x R1 and it fell. Now the screen is cracked. As far as I can see the LCD itself is still pristine. Is there anyway to replace the plastic part of the display?

There is, but it's a royal pain in the bum. You would have to find just the plexi portion of your screen on eBay or somewhere. Then you would have to disassemble your R1 to take off the LCD assembly. THEN you would need to disassemble your LCD assembly VERY CAREFULLY to get to the screen/plexi part. The LCD screen is bonded to the plexi with some very strong adhesive tape (which you would also need to purchase). Removing the plexi from the LCD is a event in and of itself, but there are users here whom have been successful in it. Finally, you would need to bond the new plexi to the LCD and put it all back together. All-in-all, it's very tedious.

Its not that hard to replace in all seriousness, I've done 5 or 6 of them now. Be careful when you replace it, but you don't even NEED that covering. Mine has run without it for a Matte screen for some time :)
