Being the clutz that I am, I accidently spilled some Coke Zero on my keyboard. I further exagerrated the problem by keeping it on since I didn't see any adverse side effects with the lights and it turning off. However, about 6 minutes later the charger stopped charging the laptop and the trackpad light no longer was lighting up.

So I turned it off, disconnected battery and let it dry till this morning. I turned it back on and it powers fine execpt now all my lights aren't working except for the keyboard lights. I haven't checked to see if the charger works yet.

Is there anyway to revive the non-working lights by cleaning the contacts of the ribbon cables with the 91% isopropyl alcohol and letting it dry for a longer time? The tron lights on the side aren't working as well and I know those don't use ribbon cables but some sort of connector cable so not sure how to even clean them.

I did order another keyboard and palm rest assembly but that will only address the lights on the trackpad.

Hope someone can help me out. It still powers fine (thank God) but not taking the risk on powering it up again until I try to clean the motherboard and let it dry for longer. Can I clean the motherboard with 91% alcohol too?

Yeah it's no problem to clean the mainboard with some alcohol, Coke is nasty stuff so hopefully it should work again with some replacement parts.

Thanks for chiming in. Is it okay to clean the ribbon cables of the led lights with alcohol too? Parts are kinda pricy on those led and tron lights so I would like to revive them if I can with alcohol and patience.

Almost pure alcohol should be no problem for the flatcables as well, the only thing to keep away from are cleaners based on acids.

So just to be certain, can I use 91% alcohol on the ribbon cables or does it have to 99%?

91% contains water but the density is so low that it will evaporate instantly with the alcohol itself. So 91% should be no problem.

Do you still think I could revive the lights if I let it dry some more or is it done for?

Dunno how successful trying to revive the tron lights would be - they are fibre optic afaik, and if they have had liquid damage, they might be beyond repair......

Well quick update. Revived all the lights except for the trackpad. At least I am getting somewhere. Looks like rubbing alcohol did the trick.

It is so funny you mentioned that because I bought that part three days ago as a "plan b" and should be arriving today. Hopefully I can still fix it and if I do, I will be returning the part. :D

I had to change the whole board since I toasted the charging port or IC circuit on motherboard which wouldn`t allow me to
    charge via adapter.

Luckily I was able to find a person with an AW 14 GTX 765M board that I did a straight trade with for my old AW 14 board and a AMD GPU card. : )
