I connected my M14x to a samsung 6000 series tv using a hdmi cable. I was able to get display my desktop on the tv but when I selected the tv in my nvidia audio settings, I couldn't get any sound out of the tv. When I set the nvidia audio options to play the sound from my computer it works on the computer. I have even reinstalled my nvidia drivers but could not get the audio to play on the tv. Anyone know what could be the problem?

Did you change the default sound device in the windows sound control panel?

Yes what you suggested was what I have done and I still could not get any audio from the tv.
The cable is a two side hdmi cable connected to hdmi ports on the tv and computer.

I had this issue with my M11x what fixed it was I would plug the hdmi cord in before I turned on the computer. Then turn it on and it worked not sure if you've tried it yet but figured I'd try to help lol

Stupid useless POS of a seller. When I was buying the HDMI cable I asked him to give me a high quality one and he gives me one that doesn't play audio and give me noise in the video signal. The problem was the hdmi cable. I tried a different one and the audio worked perfectly.

Thanks guys, you were a lot of help. I didn't know that hdmi came without audio capabilities. Any suggestion what I should look for when buying a hdmi cable.

The cable I bought has a small cylinder at both ends before the connection pins which I haven't seen on some other cables (picture attached). Do you know what this is for?

I just remembered. I had a similar problem a few months ago where a hdmi cable with the cylinders shown in my previous message wouldn't transmit audio but one without the cylinders did.

Those cylinders are ferrite cores, they are supposed to help reduce interference. I doubt they actually caused the problem, but HDMI cables can be weird sometimes :/ I usually use the cheap cheap ones and they work fine for me
