Well, this is the end; my m14x lives no more. The motherboard in my machine has gone bad for the second time in 16 months and the warranty has expired. I am really quite surprised at how unreliable my alienware has been. Flickering screen out of the box, bad subwoofer after three weeks, failled hdd after 7 months, power/charging/sleep issues after 8 months and now this? The mobo is burnt near the power supply and the machine is basically a brick. How could this happen on what is supposed to be an elite piece of hardware? I hate to say this, because when the machine was working it was amazing, but I don't think I'll ever bring my business to dell again. I'm not sure if they make more money selling cheap hardware or warranties/repair services, but they do make a beautiful machine that will empty your wallet and crush your soul, this I know for sure.

I'll miss your backlit keyboard and slot-load disc drive most, I think. Only because my new Clevo w350etq will not have said features. But it will have your CPU, your HyperX Dimms, your 830 series nand, your wifi interface, and room for your unused replacement seagate.

I have a whole lot of good parts for m14x r1 now. Maybe when I reach enough posts I'll put the stuff on the market place. PM me if you're interested in a list of the parts I have available.

Cheap parts is the cause as Dell got greedy with profits. (probably)

Even the lazy thermal paste appliance is indictor, that they are cutting on costs.

what?! well that seals it, not getting m14x, too many issues! I think they should have kept the m15x because their engineers definitely need to reexamine the concept of a mid-high end gaming 14-inch.

Before Dell, Alienware used to be a great company. But now they basically extracted all customer value from their machines because of their greed. I love my m14x, but I really don't think I'd buy another alienware later on. If you're still considering a new laptop, (even though you have your clevo) check the Asus g46vw. Its basically the same g series 15 and 17 inch, but now its a 14 inch. And unlike the alienware m14x, it has a real mxm gpu, starting with a gtx 660m, none of that onboard nvidia crap.

Yep that's the laptop I'm going to be getting if my replacement laptop becomes another dud, there's are a few things that I wish they would approve on the g46vw but they said if you wait at around 2nd Quarter of 2013 they will have more models/customization options. The laptop also utilizes a dual-fan system which I wish the Dell engineers implemented instead of just have one for both the CPU/GPU. The temps on the G46 is god-like, it's also quiet also from what the guy said on his review with the system. I'll see how my M14x turns up, it will surly determine if this is the last time I'm either with or never again with another alienware system.

Anyways that's just my 10 cents, my .02 cents is free...
