    Hi,

This news concerns all our m14x!

Nvidia Geforce 600M series comes on December 2011, But not Kepler - Lenzfire

It seems that they are just renaming the 555m, to 630m (the 128-bit version) and 635m (the 192 bit version)

This tells us that the follow-up of the 555m will only be a rebranded 635m in our case.. The 630:635 is also based on the gf106 chip as found in the 555m

What does this mean for our m14x's exactly? Are they going to start selling m14x with a better graphics card?

probably, since 555m production will be stopped at sometime? This is just an educated guess..

it also means that if the m14x will be sold with the 635m, there wont be a big difference, maybe a bit higher clock rates, but this is just the 555m renamed to 635m with minor differences in frequency, clock rates.. Nothing you cant do with overclocking. the 635m uses exactly the same chip (gf106) as the 555m

I cna still return my laptop withing the next 2 months, if any of the cards released are GDDR3 or GDDR5 I am making the switch.

    DDR3 sucks! :(

    they are definitely ddr3 m8!

they use the same chip, the gf106.. if it would use gddr5 it would get too hot anyways since the architecture hasnt changed, dell ppl cant get anything better in the m14x because of the heat

    look at this chart: http://www.notebookcheck.com/uploads/tx_jppageteaser/Unbenannt_01.png

if a ddr5 version would come out then surely with 96 shaders or 128 bit bus, so dont worry

this is rather good for current m14x owners because the follow up is exactly the same chip, that means that nothing changes really, they will just maybe up the clock rate a bit

GF106 isn't a specific GPU, it's only the architecture. E.g. the 470m and the 485m are both based on the GF104 design, but aren't identical.
Nvidia might as well add some cores or whatever... we'll see. And also there are 555m notebooks which come with the 555m and GDDR5 VRAM, that's totally possible.

    well since your from switzerland

this source says that the 630m will 144 shaders and 128 bit bus and the 635 will have the same with a 192 bit bus

    Nvidia: Notebook-GPU-Serie Geforce 600M soll am 6. Dezember kommen - Notebookcheck.com News

personally, for me, it looks like the rebranding that ati did with the 5650 and 6550 for example.. I think they are just naming the 2 versions of the 555m differently, while im not saying they wont change anything..

also if you check out the picture i posted, it seems that the new cards will also use ddr3

and there arent any 555m, with gddr5 and 192 bit bus, only with 128 bit bus and they are nearly the same speed as the ddr3/192 bit bus version... I think its a 17 inch MSI notebook which has this version ( http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/laptops-reviews-msi-gx780r-i7-2630qm-gt-555m-gddr5-nkrt-1428)

So while your right that its possible, there arent any ddr5 versions out there that are significantly faster than the 555m in the m14x.

btw. gddr3 just means "Graphic Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory", so its gddr3 what you got in your m14x

The difference will probably be like the 460M vs the 560M. Thats just my guess though. Hopefully they wont make like a 655M with the power of dual 580Ms or something

The re-branding is mostly a normal tactic for Nvidia and AMD. But what they did along with Lenovo was too much. They branded a 550M as a 555M and Lenovo shamelessly advertised it as "555M with DDR5" :(

Well, looking at the two side by side, it just looks like the 635m is a slightly overclocked GT555m, since the memory clocks are the same (which is imo the most important).

Then again, I can't claim to be an expert in graphics cards.

When the 28nm series is coming? when it comes out they would be able to put a better card in the M14X. Bahhh I can't wait anymore :( want it so much but also I want Ivy+Geforce 600 with 28nm.

I think that Dell will put the new cpu and gpu on M14x R2, and will take advantage to redesign the structure of dissipation which currently has some problems.

    Ciao: Cool:

This is actually good news for us who own an M14x. It means that we won't have a reason to be jealous.
