Is it possible to play games on this beast without requiring the massive power brick?

The alienware rep told me on the phone no to try gaming without the power brick because it uses the integrated card and performance will suffer.

he was right ... the computer kept freezing and FPS was terrible on the lowest settings. I had numerous crashes (tried BF3 and League of Legends)

Anyone here successfully able to get a game or 2 in with battery power?

    1. Step 1, hit f2 on bootup and go into bios.
    2. Choose Advanced tab. (Note also make sure you have stock bclk)
    3. F10 to save and exit.
    4. Boot into Windows 7.
    5. Create a power option called GAMING ON BATTERY.
    6. Choose advanced options for this power setting.
    7. Set PROCESSOR POWER MANAGEMENT TO MINIMUM 90 AND MAXIMUM 90 PERCENT FOR BATTERY. (For Steady FPS)
8 Set Intel Graphic Settings to Balanced for Battery.
9 Set (Graphic Processor State) Nvidia Graphic Settings to Balanced for Battery
    10. Save
    11. Choose your new gaming on battery setting and reboot!

Go have fun and game for approx an hour on battery.

    Your welcome...

Tyler is right, you need BIOS A01 to do StevenX's method. BIOS A03+ limits the GPU clocks on battery.

Ah really? Thanks for that. I've actually tried it without doing the AO1 bios and i can run saints row 3 on medium with decent speeds so i thought it was not bad.

I'm not sure if this is exactly applicable, but I can game well enough using my M18x even on battery.

It could wear it down faster very easily, but you should be fine. Just be careful on your power as to not underpower the CPU/GPU and possibly harm either.

WoW is funny because is scales so well. In 5 years, its changed drastically from a GPU perspective. My first wowbox was a 1.3ghz AMD with 64mb video and 512mb ram. And it was ballin
