Right now I use a program called Game Booster to stop all running processes I don't need while gaming, its a decent program but seeing if anyone has any other input on software or programs or anything else to optimize game performance?

The only one i have ever heard of is gamebooster, sorry.

But, off topic, i noticed that ur m14x build is the exact same (minus soundblaster and SSD) that mine will be when it arrives.

Is there anything that you would have changed should you have done it over again? or is that build perfect for you?

Hell to the no. This thing is the best computer I have ever had hands down and the SSD tops it off. I don't game much, I play Rift from time to time and I can run that at maxed or high settings at around 25FPS...if I wanted to game I would get a desktop, but nonetheless it games great. even with the 4gb of ram i have been perfectly fine, might get 8gb just for the hell of it soon, but other than that its amazing...you should be able to run most games at high settings very smooth. but yea I am tired of hearing all these people bashing the m14x.

Even my first choice is Game Booster, but then there are a couple more I can tell you about that I use on my older desktop when I game -

    >Advanced SystemCare PRO (or get the free version) which has a boost feature which works more or less the same as Game Booster.

    >TuneUp Utilities 2010/2011 : this one shuts down a lot of background services and even visual themes [not sure if it shuts down alienfx/command centre, not tried] so it should give a considerable boost [theoretically]. Its called Turbo mode and you just have to click a button on the bottom left hand corner of the window.

If I come across more, I'll sure post it here

Have you heard about/noticed any real difference without the SoundBlaster add-on? I was on the fence about it really, 75% of me says I don't need it but I'll wait for your input. Thanks!

There is a huge difference without soundblaster. Before I installed the drivers for the soundblaster, I was very disappointed by the sound quality, but after I have to say that the speakers are very very worth paying for. Only problem is Ive noticed a little crackling noise when I play music at max volume which might mean poor construction for my particular laptop. I hope thats not the case tho...

But isn't the Add-on just a Software upgrade? How does that help anyway, unless you want to use the software to customise channels and settings like mad... all the models come with the Klipsch speakers don't they??

hmmmm if thats the case then I got ripped off didnt I?
I think I saw a post somewhere about the soundblaster drivers being online for free lol..
anyways all I kno is that unless you can find the drivers for the soundblaster online, I don't think there is a way to enable the klipsch speakers. When I first opened my alienware on Wednesday, the speakers were pretty quiet. After installing the drivers, the sound difference is very noticeable.

The speakers are the same, the only difference is they give you the Sb program to mix the sounds a little different. The only thing is if you don't buy it they give you realtek HD audio manager which lets you do EQ, bass boost, and a bunch of other settings. This laptop has the most full sounding speakers I think I've ver heard.

Back to topic, why do you still need to use Game Booster with this laptop? because it wont make any different, unless you running the high graphic/CPU demand game/app.

For me I would need it after BF3 release - to squeeze out some few more fps. :D

Exactly, lol... its like asking for a handicap for yourself when you're already 20+ frags ahead ;)

But then again, no harm in having those things around for sometime in the near future and BF3 like games that you just mentioned!
