    Hey dude,

No luck, I clean installed winndows 7, installed the Intel Chipset dribver then the Intel HD vid driver in that order as I am supposed too, then the first time I installed the Dell driver released yesterday, then I tried Tru3Blu3's Laptoptogo driver link with the modded inf, then I tried it with the Nvidia drivers my Dell tech sent to me with modified .inf files.

Each and every time I get the (Code 43) Error. I am running out of patience on the matter, this is the 2nd fail M14x from Dell.. I will be talking to them today about other "options".

Have you used the "MULTIDEVICE" driver listed on Dell's website?

Yeah I have tried everything , the Dell rep remotley worked on my laptop for two and a half hours on Wednesday and had no luck either..

This has been a long week of trouble shooting and I am still exactly where I was when I started. Think the frustration is starting to get to me. Owning a new laptop is supposed to be a fun experience, when I walked past it this morning I wanted to smash it into a wall. *sigh*

    Ben.

Do you have a 1.5 or 3.0 gig card (trying to determine which components have the problem)

I know Dell has acknowledged that this is an issue, but has anyone tried to contact Nvidia about this? Has Nvidia said anything about it being something they are working on?

Is this strictly a Dell issue with bios and software? Or is this an Nvidia hardware issue?

Some people have said that removing all Nvidia things and updating fixes things, but is this really a FIX or it is covering up the issue that is bound to rise again with the release of the next drivers?

have you tried flashing the bios though? if you give a08 or even a modded version of a07/a08 it may reflash the board to accept the driver im using (because our hardware id's are identical and what works for me should work for you as well...id assume)

i kinda feel bad, you got mine jump started enough to install a modded driver and now youre still stuck.

for the record, i have yet to receive a follow up call from dell...i only heard from the technician that was going to replace the board, he said he would cancel the order (which i would assume would escalate to tech support and they would have called me to ask what im doing)

I am currently on A08, when I first received the laptop it was A07, and I rolled it back to A05 to see if the card would read correctly , no luck, then based on the Dell reps recommendation, I went back to A08.

I suppose tonight I could try and flash back to A05, do I clean install and see if that helps.

I dont have the comp here with me now .. The sight of it made me sick this morning.. I'll have another crack tonight.

    Cheers guys.

lol, i was right there with ya...

id stick with a fresh a08 reflash for now. just wondering if the bios made any difference. lets see if deleting nvidia folders in registry may help with a cleaner install.

be thorough, after deleting/cleaning anything, restart. once everything is clean id do the modded 295 driver and see what happens. at one point i also had the code 43 error...so i dont think youre totally screwed just yet.

Eventually they'll tell you that they're sending a tech out to install a new video card. :-(. That's what happened to me after 3 hours of remote tinkering didn't help. Except I send it back for a refund, no reason to have these problems on a brand new machine.

My m14x should be here on Monday. Once I get it, I will be seeing if it has this issue for sure.

If it does, I will be posting here of what fixes I have tried, and what works.

Part of me really hopes I DON'T have any issues so that I can just kick back and enjoy my new system, and another part of me wants to have the issues so I can report back and possibly help others.

Realistically, based on what time mine shipped out. I am fairly sure I am going to have issues. Mine shipped out the 8th/9th (Dell site said 8th but the 8th was a Sunday, so I am fairly sure the 9th is more correct, as that is what Purolator says) and someone else on here said that Dell didn't have MoBos that fixed the issue until the 10th.

    We will see.

Has anyone who lost their driver after trying to download and install from the nvidia site tried a system restore to the point before they installed the driver? Just curious if it would bring it back to the installed driver. Also, since dell doesn't authorize the use of these drivers, only the ones on their download site, could this potentially void the warranty on the installed card that came with the system? Many of you have talked to tech and just curious if they said anything about downloading beta drivers. Thanks.

Mine? M14X I7 with 3.0 gig card. Downloaded A08 and 269 driver, all seems ok, Delivered on the 4th of Jan. Still debating about sending it back but I have no issues now but haven't tried to download the beta drivers on the nvidia site.

Interesting, mine shipped last night (13th), should be here either today or tuesday because Monday is Martin Luther King Day here in America (not sure if your from the states). I ordered mine with a 1.5 gig card though so i may not have any problems.

Judging as how there have been no new posts lately, i can assume one of two things:

    1) the problem has been temporarily solved by the new MULTI-DEVICE driver released by Dell

    OR

    2) people have given up hope.

I don't have BF3 quite yet but I do have BF2. With the 295 drivers, it's unplayable. The game launches fine and I can navigate through menu's but once I try to launch a game, it totally freezes and I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL out of it.

L4D2 works great, though. I'll have to try some things and let you know how my tests go...

I am in Canada currently. On late friday afternoon the tracker said that my laptop was at a depot thats roughly 3 hours away. Based off other shipments, I am going to assume its getting here tomorrow. (Monday) I have zero idea if Canadians celebrate Martin Luther King Day. Nobody here has told me that there won't be mail tomorrow because of it.

Sorry it took me so long to respond on this. . . My netbook got taken down due to a stupid misclick that ended in viruses. I spent most of yesterday cleaning stuff off and it left me after taking down my internet connection. I can't even plug an ethernet cord in and have it be recognized. Since I was going to reformat soon anyways, I am not putting the effort forth into fixing the whole system. Makes more sense to back up and reformat once my m14x is deemed fully functional.

    Update ...

So this morning, after leaving my M14x alone for the weekend, I started it up and looked at what was there, A05 Bios and Nvidia driver 269.37, But still showing (code 43), I flashed the A05 Bios with the same Bios A05, looked in the device manager and the GT 555m was still (code 43) flashed it imediately with A08 Bios, incredibly THE BLOODY THING WORKED !

I restarted a couple of times to make sure it wasn't a fluke, but surprisingly its finding the card and running it properly every time.

Now I have a question.. Who has gotten to this stage then updated safely to a better version driver ?? I dont want to mess it up again now I am this far along.. Is it safe to install the laptoptogo driver ? or is there a better one I should try ??

    Ben.

    And another update..

Computer is fine, after I got it running on A08 Bios and Nvidia driver 269.37, I simply downloaded the 295.18 with modified inf, swapped out nvam.inf, and plain old installed straight over the top, it worked first go, no problems at all..

Tha laptop is working beautifully, I have to install steam and test it out with skyrim, after all the pain, I do have to say its kick fast, and compared to the "BLOATED" machine you receive out of the box delivered from Dell, its worth fresh installing only the neccessary programs.

Thanks to everyone that helped out, hope I helped a few out too. Lets cross our fingers and hope that this is the last of the troubles we have like this.

    All the best guys.

    Ben.

Hi Ben, happy for your success. Hope i can replicate it with my system. just a couple of questions:
    1. when did you get you system and what bios?
    2. what is your card(1.5 or 3g)

and also can you psot links for your driver and bios downloads(a08, 269.37, 295.18+mod inf). And also a more detailed description of how you updated. this in formation would help a lot. thanks!

Got my system 2 weeks ago, arrived with Bios A07 and Card Hardware ID "124D" which is a 3.0GB card.

"124D" was the culprit card that was causing all the problems, if you have a different hardware ID for your card then the solutions in this thread may not work for you.

    BIOS A08
Drivers and Downloads | Dell [Singapore]

    Dell Nvidia Driver 269.37
Drivers and Downloads | Dell [Singapore]

    Laptopvideo2go driver 295.18 + Modded .inf file.
    Drivers | laptopvideo2go.com

All the steps taken to get this working are in the previous posts in this thread.. I think though, once you have 269.37 running on BIOS A08, you are out of the woods and should be able to do a straight forward update with the laptopvideo2go driver .. BUT REMEMBER TO SWAP OUT THE INF FILE FOR THE MODIFIED ONE.

    Best of luck.

awesome, glad i could sort of return the favor. everything on my system has been running flawlessly.

    im playing some games

so far on the modded driver ive been able to play:
mw3 (excellently...havnt adjusted any video properties)

driver-SF (decent game-great graphics on side videos but gameplay lacks the same quality)

dirt 3 (great game, adjusted graphics to full detail, the driving sim is a little weird to get used to but graphics are impressive)

dues ex (no graphics adjusted, great quality (seems to get the machine hotter than other games...though i havnt read into temps) difficult and reminds me a little too much of metal gear solid...i wonder why)

i keep hearing about skyrim...i think ill check out the vids and see whats the deal, seems like people cant shut up about it...but battlefield 3 was the same way and i dont care for it all that much (more of a call of duty kinda guy)

I just got my M14x Monday. For now I am not going to mess with any of the drivers because I need to run to the store and grab something to create a recovery on. I spent a really long time getting the system the way I wanted it, so I don't want to lose all that work.

From the factory I have A07 BIOS and 124D card. The driver version for the card is 269.37

Once I have a recovery created, I will update BIOS to A08 and use your link for the driver + modded INF. Hopefully everything will go smoothly.

It's really good to hear that you got things working! I really do hope that you can look at your M14x and not want to smash it against things anymore!! ^__^

That sounds like a fairly reasonable plan.. update the Bios to A08 first, Then install the laptopvideo2go 295.18 with modded inf.

If that fails, you have a LOAD of options to try, I think at this late stage you wont be out of action for long if things go awry. We know for sure now A08 works with 269.37 , and 295.18.

Good luck man, hope you have a nicer time than I did. :p

did you downd the modified .inf file too? you have to extract the 295.18 and copy/replace the .inf file into the driver folder.

once its overwritten the old .inf file, you should be able to get into setup and get it to take correctly.

Same here. Had A08 and 269.37. Updated to 295.18 and all went well.

295 was giving me trouble with BF3 so i rolled back to 285, thats what i needed anyways to stop the freezing and crashing.

I upgraded the bios to A08, and then nabbed that modded INF file along with the 295.18 driver from laptoptogo. Worked 100% without any issues.

Hopefully future driver updates wont be so quirky. For now though. . . nothing seems non-functional. I didn't even have to clean install the drivers for it to work.

Again, thanks for sticking with the problem as long as you did and not giving up. (This goes to everyone else who helped out on solving this as well!) Enjoy your fully functioning laptop!
