Those who receive their M14X already please answer this questions

How bright is the 900p screen ?

if you own the M15X before is the M14X the same brightness or more ?

How is the color reproduction on the M14X screen bad? good?

how is the build quality ?

if somebody else have more questions for new owners please post here those are my main concerns about the machine :)

Whats battery life for general use (Web browsing, word processing/productivity task)? Gaming battery life?

For those with the Wireless video option how is quality of streaming content?

Track pad quality? (m15x is horrible)

Build quality compared to the older m15x and m17x r2?

Sound quality from speakers compared to the m15x and m17x?

After gaming how does the laptop cooling feel? Anything appear to be running hot?

I'm very interested in the screen quality as well. It's a WLED, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

It's never going to be as good as the top notebook screens on the market like the M17x R2's RGBLED display and the HP Envy's Radiance Display.

However it should definitely be better than a standard notebook screen, or even the screens in most gaming notebooks.

Of course, that's just speculation. I'm interested in finding out as well.

They should have subcontracted a B+RG LED for the m14x like they did for the XPS 15.

    It's a no-brainer.

I also don't necessarily agree that it's going to be better than a standard notebook screen either. Alienware is inconsistent with their screen quality. Look at the m11x. That ranks as one of the worst quality WLEDs on the market.

I'm hopeful and may be pleasantly surprised, but I'm not going to expect good and then be upset when it's "meh."

I doubt it will be better than the WLED on the m17x R3, and even that screen is really nothing to get excited about. I'm a picky (illegitimate child) , but at least I'll own it.

Yes it came today. With regards to the screen, I wouldn't say its a bad screen, I haven't had a RGB screen before so can't compare, but I can compare it to the hp envy screen that a friend has. The envy screen is better, dell really should have gone for the B+RG LED at least like they have in the xps. Also I would have preferred the screen to be brighter, but I wasn't expecting amazing things from this screen.

    Congratz btw.

The Screen is a given, I think. That's why they added more display out options so we can play from different screens.

Do you own an M11x? I hope it has a way better screen than the M11x..

Spartan which screen did you get on your M14x?

The Dell chart shows the 1600x900 screen to be a third brighter than the lower res one.

Here is the link Speedy. Click compare side by side Dell - Help Me Choose: Display

The HD+ screen in the M14x is also brighter than the M17x R3's basic screen.

you can't compare the macbook pro screen with that because they are rated at 400 nits if i am not wrong but can you tell me if is a decent screen overall ?
try cranking up the digital vibrance on the nvidia control panel and the laptop brightness to max

    I have the HD+ 900.

This is my first laptop and the only comparison I can make is with an old 17" CRT monitor.

I download television episodes that I can't watch because of time constraints, such as True Blood, Falling Skies and Doctor Who, and compared with my CRT, so far I find the vids are dark. Any night scene is barely watchable.
I fiddled with the settings a bit but since the picture is great with games, I don't want to mess things up too much.
When I download an HD episode though the picture is much better, but since those files are larger and I have a download limit with my ISP, I tend to get the lesser quality ones.

Also, not sure if this is intended or not, but Mass Effect 1 has this dark halo all around the screen during cutscenes.

It's a good computer. The screen is great, the build quality is great and high end no doubt, on par or close to the unibody macbook pro.

It is thick though, and definitely without a doubt a 15.6" mainstream size laptop, despite being labeled 14".

The CPU is great even at stock, the GPU is GREAT.

It will run all games at 900p on Medium, and you can squeeze out High/Ultra settings on less graphical games, on more graphical/CPU intensive games like Battlefield Bad company 2, it can do HIGH with 40fps average, but you need to tweak advanced settings (i.e. turn HBAO off, shadows to low).

Overall its an amazing machine, that packs the power of bigger machines in a portable form factor. I mean, you can literally play battlefield on to go at coffee shop and its a very comfortable form factor, although your going to pay for the privilege in price $$$

Have to disagree with some of that.

The 900p screen is good but not great. Viewing angles are good but brightness and contrast coupled with the glossy nature hamper it. Its ok and compared to an m11x screen................ its like heaven. Versus a macbook pro screen, nowhere near as good.

Build quality is generally very good, many users have reported keyboard issues. My spacebar is slightly wonky and spongey in the centre. Having said that, its a very solid build and does have a high quality feel .

Despite its flaws, heat and noise being a couple of irritants. Overall a well thought out little package.

Dell seem to have neglected to offer a high quality screen, Sata3 that does not run st sata3 speeds consistently (intel). Daft 3gb graphics card option and unrealistic ssd priced upgrades.

    I love it though :)

You can make it super bright, reminds me of the RGBLEDs I had on my SXPS 16.

    Dunno

Pretty good IMO, but I'm not very photographically inclined so I probably can't tell

Metallic frame inside and rubber exterior. Pretty solid but a bit heavy.

I always find the screen argument futile.

What makes a good screen? It's rather subjective. I mean, everyone has different eyes, some people like brighter screens vs dark and vice versa

My HD+ screen is okay. It didn't blow me away when I first turned it on :( It's bright enough for me. I just don't like the glare.

The touchpad is not very good. It took a lot of tweaking and its still not very good. It's multitouch but isn't very good. It's somewhat jumpy.

This is my first M14x...had 2 of them so far. 3rd one on its way. Never owned another AW.
