I started up my laptop at the school library today and by the time you see the windows login screen, the screen is flickering. There are lines of colored lines that keep coming and disappearing and the screen sometimes looks as if it's shaking. I called up Dell and they took control of my computer remotely to try fixing it. The flickers disappeared and came back a few times during the whole process of reinstalling my graphics drivers. He then benchmarked my laptop with DX11 where I got a benchmark score of 264? The highest fps was 20.5 and the lowest was 5 or so I believe. He then talks with his supervisor and he says we should try reinstalling windows on the laptop and we scheduled for him to call back in 2 hours because i had to go home to backup my important files and get my windows install disc. So far....he hasn't called back after 3 and a half hours, but I don't see any flickering...so I hope maybe it's fixed? Hopefully? Anyone else ever had this issue? I'm sad, I thought I wouldn't have any more problems anymore and could go through 2 years or so without any issues.

I had the exact same issues sometimes and i still dont know whats the reason for this. I guess it has soemthing to do with the graphic card cause its clearly only affecting the screen.

However rebooting fixes it and last time it happend is some time ago now.
I dont think reinstalling and so on helps with this issue and its boring to see them forcing people to reinstall windows as a solution for every problem soon for a headache too maybe...

User: My alienware is giving me a headache cause of the high notch fan noise.
Dell Support: Im sure reinstalling windows will help with this issue i will call you back in (*laughs unhearable*) 1 hour to see if it helped or not. Is there anything else i can help you with?
User: No thank you for your help i will reinstall windows now and wait for your Call after that. Do you need my number or do you have it?
    Dell Support: beep beep beep...

note: this is fiction and not related to real story but an example how it could go^^

I had this exact same issue and have had my motherboard replaced twice so far. Since the last replacement I haven't had any issues yet but this issue occurred randomly so I'm sure it's only a matter of time. I am running the stock drivers. The last time this happened my screen was flickering at the welcome screen AND flashing green, red and blue randomly.

After the first motherboard replacement unigine still had poor performance until I reinstalled windows and installed the drivers in the recommended order.

It's a shame this keeps happening for several people including myself. I don't think it's the video driver at least not for nvidia because at the welcome screen it should be using the HD4000, so I think it is either the CPU, screen or a combo of those two and the mobo. I am just waiting for it to happen again. I will upload the latest video of my issue later.

    i was having a similar issue with my R2 (Q3160 / 2Gb 650).

i knew it wasn't a issue with "my install" because i tried 3 separate installs of windows and it did it with all 3. not to mention it would do it in the Bios too soooo.... it would flicker completely random. sometimes once every few minutes and then a freak out here and there where it would flicker like 10 times in 2-3 sec. then sometimes it would just flicker once every 3-4sec. which was VERY annoying. however i did not see any colors or lines like some of you guys have mentioned.

with seeing it flicker in the Bios that could only mean to me that it would be related to the LCD panel or possibly the GFX card. i sent mine out for repair before the weekend (for multiple issues). i got $5 on the flicker still being there when it comes back... :(
