I have been playing Diablo 3 and recently just purchased Far Cry 3 via Steam. I haven't played a FPS in awhile so It's taking some getting used to coming from Diablo. For anyone who has been playing this game on this laptop what are the best settings for optimal play with a decent framerate. Is there a way to check my FPS. Also, sometimes when I play at work my connection is slow. Will this affect the frame rate of the game and if so can I play it offline even though it's through steam. Thanks for any advice!

I've been playing this game for a while now, and the M14x handles is pretty good. With postfx and anti aliasing off and everything else maxed, you can probably get a decent 30-45 fps. I personally like to keep the settings low for the higher framerate but the game still looks pretty good. The shadow, postfx and anti aliasing quality can really cripple the performance. Anti aliasing in this game is horrible, and in my opinion I would leave it off due to the huge performance hit. You're connection shouldn't matter if you're playing offline.

Let me know if you're wondering about anything else. I've been messing with the graphic settings forever.

Thanks for the response. Is there a way to play this game offline? I've seen the offline option through Ubisoft's Uplay but since I'm playing via Steam is there an offline mode through steam as well. Basically if my internet is completely down I want to have the option to still play this game. Is that possible?

    Thanks

Few things i do when i play a graphically demanding game are:

    Have turbo boost on
Setup a high performance power plan so laptop runs at maximum performance
Whitelist the game in the nvidia control panel
Use msi afterburner to overclock a little just to keep my fps well above 30 (30 fps is what consoles run at, so anything above that is fine! Also only use overclocking if you know what your doing)
Always have my laptop well ventilated so it doesnt over heat, my m14xr2 normally is at 60ish degrees while playing games like bf3 and witcher 2, if it reaches around 85ish degrees you will see a significant decrease in fps, probably an unstable 10-20 fps =/
Lastly, spend time tweaking and testing different settings, it will be worth it in the long run :)

Only recently i have managed to play witcher 2 at a stable 45-60 fps on mostly high graphics opions!
You probably wont use all these methods, its personal preference at the end of the day xD

Make sure you have the game setup like this in the nVidia Control Panel to get a better experience.

Put everything on High instead of Ultra... then turn antialiasing off..

You should totally turn Postfx off, I think that will give you a nice boost in fps.. and in my opinion looks much nicer.. read this to learn how
