Yeah, and another is A05 version fix the noise during activity outside gaming as far as I know, but if in game they still do get loud just it is adjust to the temp of your CPU.

Loud fan = lower chances of CPU damage. I'll keep my loud fans thank you.

The noise level is nowhere near how it was before A05. I can't believe you can't hear the difference.

Coming from A03 the difference is not that large, A05 seems more active than A03 in that when idling the fan will spin at a low rpm. But when running Crysis 2 both version of the BIOS will run at full blast due to how demanding the game is, I guess same is happening for your games.

It doesnt make the fans quieter, it just adds more possible speeds the fan can run at. So when playing less demanding games, the fans dont have to be as loud. When playing demanding games like the ones you said though, itll still get loud if it needs to

it really sounds like you hate the m14x past few threads youve made lol
the fans are doing their job of cooling the computer. make sure your not blocking air vents or aything.
if all else fails ring dell get a replacement

I noticed in my short time with the laptop that the fan slows down to a whisper when web surfing, which is prefect IMO.

    Seriously high performance.

    What do you expect.

My M14x's fan hardly spins at balanced.

Don't expect a toyota engine cooling system on a ferrari engine.

    Be realistic here.

Nah, a Ferrari Engine purrs and sounds beautiful. The m14x cooling system sounds like a Toyota. I returned mine because of the fan noise. Its the first of 3 Alienware laptops I ever returned. A lot more thought should have went into the cooling system.

As for being realistic, i bet R2 of the m14x will have a much quieter cooling solution.

That's what high performance is, it mean High performance, in order to provide you a high and smooth and without burning your laptop, the fan will be loud, but if you want your fan to be quiet you can tweak the setting in the Advance Power Plant setting under Processor Power Management > System Cooling Policy, then change it to Passive

    * Warning:* This will reduce the fan spinning period, thus it will/might damage your computer as the fan will not set to be in an active cooling mode, use at your own Risk.

I am sorry, but you are wrong about A03 and A05. Not only did they add more steps for fan speed, but they also made it less aggressive to reving up at higher speeds. The downside is that your laptop will get slighty hotter, aprox. +3-4 Celcius. Maybe you should reflash back til A03 to refresh your memory?

My M14x was shipped with A03, and I was not statisfied with how the fan speed control and steps worked. The A05 improvements made the neccessary changes which was possible with the M14x cooling solution. I've tested with Prime95 with 8 threads at 100% load, and I've been playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Dead Island for several hours. None of those games are as demading as Crysis2, but most games aren't. Games usually have near 100% GPU load, and CPU load spikes now and then. The CPU is the biggest heat source in the M14x.

    Hi
Just get yoursellf a laptop cooler just to be safe and you will also find that the fan in the M14X wont throttle so much.

I have a M14X and have just bought the belkin laptop cooling stand, Excellent temp reduction when gaming was getting temps of 89-96 now it never goes over 79-81.
because the temps dont get so high the M14X cooling system is quieter.

Have tried my hardest for an hour and still not raised over 81

The size is perfect for the M14X and I got mine in black so it all looks good.

I bought and tried the targus chill mat but got a refund because the M14X doesn't sit on it securely and the temp reduction was not to noticable to me.

I think the belkin cooling stand works so good on the M14X because of the curve in the base of the cooling stand and you can really feel the air movement.

    Hope this helps. :) :) :)
