I originally posted this with a different title and have been unable to change it. And the previous title is misleading. I'm desperate for help so I made a thread with a more appropriate title and am just copying the old OP from the original thread here and adding more information.

Bumping this thread because the same problem has arose. Every single game is stuck and won't go above 31FPS with VSync off (including games like Minecraft and FEAR 1 and on Minecraft I was hitting an easy 500FPS!)
I'm at college now and I can't just reboot to factory settings like last time. Any help would be very appreciated!
I'm very very desperate and I can't do a clean install..

Games I have tested that get over 60FPS or higher before this random problem. Again, I haven't done anything, hell I haven't downloaded a single thing since arriving to college last week and this just started up again yesterday

    FEAR 1-3
    CoD 4-MW3
    Diablo 3
    Blacklight Ret.
    GTA 4, San Andreas
    Fallout 3 and New Vegas

I have tried defaulting all settings in Nvidia control panel, I have set it to 650m always on, whitelisted all games I posted above and still no changing it. This is so random I don't know what has caused this at all. I'm am very very desperate for help as I'm under stress from school and this is something that I can't left go unfixed.
Any help at all would be amazing. I emailed AW yesterday and have gotten no response.

    Hello everyone,
I have fallen in love with my new MX14 R2.
I have been using it mainly for FO3 and CoD4 and today I went to go play some CoD4. None of my settings have been adjusted, in nVidia it is set to run with the nvidia chip not the intel yet for some reason I'm stuck at 31fps. Never under and never over.

I had been running at 91fps without movement and it was perfect and I had absolutely no problems. I turn on my computer boot up CoD4 go to my favorite server and I'm stuck at 30FPS. I've tried tons of other servers both full and empty but I can't change my FPS. Its whitelisted in the nvidia panel, none of my settings have changed at all. I literally just booted up the Alienware and jumped into CoD4 and have been experience these problems for a few hours. I've adjusted settings back to default then to where they were, I tried running through xFire and Steam and I've tried just right clicking and choosing the nvidia chip to run CoD4 none have any affect. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I've been trying for the last few hours but nothing seems to work?

EDIT: I tried running Fallout 3 (the other main game) and it is also stuck at 31 FPS and its been running at a smooth 60. Help?

Edit 2: All games I have tried won't budge above 30FPS (Included games (all of which ran above or at 60FPS before whatever changed this) Portal 2, Portal 1, WoW, Call of Duty 4, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas)

Edit 3: I've had to restart my computer twice now since this started happening. Once because it froze up. Once because my sound across my laptop started to sound like a robot through water using both speakers and headphones. I'm really unsure of whats going on. My computer seems to run fun on the internet and playing videos but I'm locked into 30FPS and now having random sound issues? Anyone have some ideas? I believe the topic of this thread has changed to all games experiencing FPS problems but I can't change the thread name apparently. So yeah, I'm getting kinda desperate. Its been a few hours that I've been trying to figure this out but I'm not finding anything.

Edit 4: Tried rolling back to the old Nvidia drivers. No dice.

Edit 5: I'm really hoping someone will respond to this. The forum title is kind of misleading I feel at this point but for some reason it won't change ><
Anyway, I decided to drop everything down to the lowest it can go on both CoD4 and Fallout 3 (Which were running at a smooth 90FPS and 60FPS respectfully before today) and still stuck at 30FPS. The only logical thing I can think of is that somewhere in some area (I'm not sure where) there is a lock on my FPS for gaming. I'm not sure if it is something to do with nVidia or the system or something but I just don't understand. I haven't touched any settings on the laptop, haven't done any overclocking, haven't downloaded anything. I literally booted up the laptop. Double clicked the icon jumped into the same server that I've played 20-30 times before and am now stuck at 30 FPS. Everything that was plugged in is the same. Nothing changed (at least that I did). Is there some sort of locking feature somewhere? Is there way to check for this?

Update : I called Dell. They completely reinstalled drivers of both the Nvidia and Intel. Didnt change anything...

Maybe the refresh rate of your screen is set low. Right click desktop and click nvidia settings. Go to screen resolution and make sure its at 60 hertz. Also make sure your intergrated gpu is set to 60. Right click desktop, select screen resolution, advanced, intel graphics, and set to 60 hertz.

I had this problem with battlefield 3, no matter what graphics settings I changed, nothing solved it and it kept at a constant 29-31fps. I even tried re-installing the drivers and that was no help. I finally got fed up and did a clean install of the computer and seems to have solved it. Now keep in mind this was within a week or two of ownership, so i didn't have all my stuff settled into the computer, so I decided to re-install windows.

just a question how do you hit 500fps on minecraft, The most i have hit on mc was 300fps and I average about 70-100fps.

Try this, right click your desktop or the icon on nvidia control panel, go to manage 3d settings, and under global settings, scroll down to power management mode and put it on prefer maximum performance instead of adaptive. You can also do this individually with any apps/games on the program settings tab.

See if that fixes the issue.

hmmmph it's weird, my fps goes up and down some days (ambient temps staying roughly the same) by decent chunks (not affected much by changing any settings).

    - though, with a m14x r1 I have in front of me plays GW2 around 20-30 fps and my m14x r2 (current) plays at around 30-40 most of the time (goes higher sometimes but usually that's when i'm just standing still in-game). both at best appearance set... i guess that's about right when they're not OC'd right?
