I thought about replying...Then I read your grammar. Jk lol. A laptop cooler would be great if you don't mind it. It's not a must, but a lot of people do use it, it gets way hotter than normal under load, or if you're planning on overclocking the gpu and worried about temps. Maybe a nice razer mouse if you want, and if you can, the ultimate upgrade, an ssd. You might also want a nice lcd screen cleaning kit because it leaves marks from the keyboard and trackpad on the screen, probably from moisture. I bought 120 screen wipes on ebay for a dollar. Congrats on your new alienware btw :)

I just got my M14x today, and had my "extras" arrive earlier from Amazon. I went with a Razer wireless mouse, Logitech wireless gamepad and a 500gb momentus (sp?) xt drive (not quite ssd, but faster than standard hdds as I understand it).

Origin online has Crysis 2 on sale for like 21 clams right now, so picked that up with a few more games earlier in the week from the Steam sale that is now over.

I've got an older logitech laptop cooler that's so-so...not really a fan of it :) Anybody recommend a nice quiet one that sits well on your lap?

    Innovera 120 pack screen wipes
Innovera Computer, LCD TV Screen Cleaning pop up wipes | eBay

They are great for the price, they arent too moist and might dry out before you use all 120, but for a dollar, cant go wrong. ;)

And for a razer mouse, The orochi sounds sweet. Keep in mind that bluetooth isnt a stable connection, actually more choppy than regular wireless 2.4ghz, so it isnt reccomended for gaming, but you can always connect it via usb for gaming and use it bluetooth when not. (idk if you added bluetooth)

well, the m14x only has one fan, but the computer itself is bigger than most 14 inch laptops, and also the middle does get very hot as well as the cpu fan. But I dont know if you can reverse one of the fans and make them blow against the computer bottom. I know you can re arrange them though. Up to you. All i think that matters is that you help the cpu fan with cooling, so that's where one fan would only really be needed.

Why dispose? Put it into a usb enclosure and use it as high-capacity portable storage.

Also did you get some deal with the 3GB card or did you choose it...because it's kind of a waste of money :/

if u want better sound quality get the soundcard for a little extra rather than using the onboard (motherboard) soundcard.

It's not a different sound card, they just sell you a program to adjust the EQ a little more than the included realtek manager one. It's funny because the realtek one is pretty customizable/adjustable and already has given me the best sound I've ever heard from any laptop.

That wouldnt be from the realtek... the great sound is from the dedicated Klipsch speakers.. i have a pair of Klipsch's in my 5.1 home theatre, and they dont lemme down on it or on this laptop :) they are amazing.

Also, the soundblaster is generally more for audiophiles who want to be able to fine tune there sound or want to use high end IEM's or some good headphones.

You won't notice much difference with the soundblaster on the speakers, but, plug in a pair of high end IEM's and it'll blow ya away :D

After a few days use of this exact mouse, I'm sending it back for that exact reason. What's the use of a wireless mouse if you have to plug it in to get the performance you desire. Maybe I'll try out one of MS bluetrack just for kicks.

New to the forum. Wanted to say hello and solicit feedback. Just purchased my new M14x on Wednesday the 13th. ETA is the 28th. I'm upgrading from my M11x R1. Below is the configuration that I went with.

    1 Intel Core i7 2720QM 2.2GHz (3.3GHz Turbo Mode, 6M cache
    1 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
    1 14.0 High Def+ (900p/1600x900) with WLED backlight
1 3.0GB DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M using NVIDIA Optimus technology
    1 256GB Solid State Drive SATA 3Gb/s
1 Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Service Pack 1
1 Soundblaster X-Fi Hi Def Audio - Software Enabled
    1 Killer Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO for Gaming and Video
    1 Internal 60GHz WirelessHD Transmitter
    1 Internal Bluetooth 3.0

Basically the current high end upgrade + savings configuration on Dell.com. Added some other things like the SSD. I know the 3 GB on the GFX is redundant but I wanted to take advatage of the initial $273 in total savings before the $50 coupon and another veteran discount. Upgrading from the next down configuration and foregoing the 3 GB GFX would have cost about $35 more. I've got a few questions. Any responses are greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

    1. Has anyone had the chance to test the killer wireless-N card and what have you experienced with it? I'm using a Netgear WNDR3700 and I have Comcast extreme 50mbps. I would like to know if anyone has noticed improvement on range/speedtest/pingtest. My M11x did okay with speedtest (27mbps down/6 mbps up.) I always had a good bit of packet loss on ping test so I was hoping that this new wireless card would improve that. I'm also upgrading my cable connects from modem to router to cat 6a shielded from cables to go. Hopefully this better cable will increase speed and reduce interference.

    2. What brand and model SSD does Dell put in the M14x? Is it the same as the one in the M11x R1?

    3. Any real word tests and reviews of the wirless HD and Vizio tuner? I'll run the Vizio tuner to my receiver in my living room. I can't wait to try it out. I have a Pioneer Elite Pro-141 60" display that was calibrated by Gregg Loewen of Lion A/V out of Pensacola. I'm running a Denon AVR-990 with a klipsch 5.1 surround setup that should make the gaming pretty sweet.

Is that real? I would purchase two of those :D ! Could be perfect for LAN parties so nubcakes won't screen cheat and you could also do stuff your boss won't approve of! Highly recommended OP even though I haven't tried one. A cooling pad is perhaps needed. You're good to go and you might want to use a bag, like a case bag thing.
