I just purchased my son a Samsung 24" external monitor to go with his M14X R2 laptop, which has a 3.3GHz i7-3610QM processor and 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT650 graphics card. We're connecting the monitor with an HDMI cable. According to my son, his frame rates are horrible making the external monitor unusable.

Is there something we're doing wrong or should I be using a different connection port?

    Thanks!

well what resolution is the m14x's screen? if the external monitor is 1080p, then of course there will be fps lag because the resolution is higher(when playing games). HDMI would be your best option.

try changing the Resolution(in game) to the resolution he was playing on before.

Increasing the game's resolution will make the fps drop significantly, if you play on the laptop native's resolution he won't experience these drops.
