why do you need a usb3.0 on these things? The port inside the machine is SATA150 which is 1/3 of USB2 bandwidth

C1ro so a USB 2.0 would be equally as fast as the internal one supplied with the M14x ? I was just worried about the USB 2 because i choose the most expensive processor 2820 so that i can do my dvd rips faster and i didnt want it to be bottle necked by the usb 2.0

Are you 100% sure USB 2.0 will not bottle neck the performance ?

I think you're confusing bytes and bits... "SATA 150" is 1.5 gigabits per second, USB is 480 megabits per second.

480 megabits per second will that bottleneck the speed of my dvd ripping ?

its the whole reason i got the 2820QM proc for speedy dvd rip :D

For what its worth, I just bought a Blu ray burner and placed it in a external optical drive enclosure that has both USB2.0 and eSATA. I ripped two bluray's in about 2 hours on my m14x via USB. I have the 2720QM and didn't notice any issues. I was using the web and had a couple programs running at the same time.
