Just yestrday something weird happened to me. I was playing Frozen Synapse, and Windows Update was running in the background. The game was choppy and laggy, and I realized the fan was not working at all. I've checked the back of the computer and it was INCREDIBLY warm... I can't say how many degrees, but it was not normal.

I've immediately turned the computer off.

Luckily so far it seems nothing was damged.

So yes, for some reason Windows Update overheats the system, and the fan getting loud should be normal.

You should worry if it DOESN'T get loud, as it happened to me.

Not for me, well It does, but not all the time, it was like just 30%-50% of the time. And only when I'm on High Performance* power plan, if on Balance* or Power Saver*.

*all setting are unchanged except for Screen brightness and sleep setting.
