Seems like they have been lagging behind on this important driver issue? Would love some more info, don't really feel like modding the inf file, read there were some issues.

not a clue tbh when they will ever fix it. I'd rather have the driver straight from nvidia anyway. My driver is working just fine with modified inf file

Just used the modded inf file to get the 275.33 drivers. 1541 to 1646 was the difference in 3dmark11. I recommend to do this, alienware seems to have literally the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. They do not care, follow the easy instructions in the modded inf thread to help you if you need. The only computer company that you can't email is alienware. Unless they change their attitude towards the customer, I will purchase something else, no way I'm going to deal with those morons again.

By email Alienware you mean email Dell right? because alienware will not help you uless you purchased your computer prior to sep09. If you are having an issue contact Dell not Alienware.

Also I am sorry to even have to mention that while Dell may not be the greatest customer support company I would recommend looking at the others. Gaming laptops by clevo have horrible driver support from their respective vendors and you end up doing the same thing, lookign for drivers yourself. Honestly unless the driver is broken and doesnt work I would say Dell is doing just fine and they will update drivers and more importantly firmware as needed.

to quote one of the High end computer companies, Falcon-NW...

"As a basic rule of thumb: If it's not broken, don't fix it! When your system is running perfectly, installing a driver update which results in problems can be extremely frustrating. We recommend that you update drivers only when they are providing you with a specific advantage or solution to a problem. For example, the video card drivers may need to be updated if you are having a problem with a recently released game."

I'm perfectly fine with your opinion, but if they were not planing on updating drivers when they are not critically needed, they should have allowed anyone to update the drivers through third party vendors such as nvidia. The fact they stop such things, yet still don't update their drivers is just not an acceptable business practice in my opinion. I should not have to mod a driver file for the graphics card I have in order to keep my drivers up to date (it was more than 5% increase in performance just by downloading a new driver, why would you think something like that is not important to the alienware customer?). If that's OK with you, fine, but it's just bad business no way around it.

Dell does not take emails for alienware.

Alienware died Sep09. Sorry but when you buy an "Alienware" you are buying a Dell. All customer service for your "Alienware" is through Dell.

Alienware is basically just a name for Dell's Gaming computers, like Envy to HP.

Also if you read what I posted you woudl know I stated that you do this with all computers. It is standard for pretty much all manufactured computers to not have drivers released very quickly. If you are pushing for the most out of your computer you will have to do it yourself because Dell doesnt want to stick it's neck out and release a driver that may causes issues, which in turn causes more problems on their customer service. In other words, It will take time.

Edit: About Dell allowing you to update your drivers from Nvidia. While that would be great they do this because of people who will update their drivers and have issues with said drivers will then complain to Dell. People who know there way around a computer and can install driver not released by Dell will still get what they want while Dell avoids the less knowledgeable screwing up there computer and complaining to them. Its just the way they protect themselves.

OK... 2GStyle calm down, didn't know you felt so deeply about the issue. Sorry but you can't email Dell about your alienware computer, thought I posted that last time. There is no one to email, nobody. If you buy a Dell you call email them, alienware... No. Hope that cleared that up for you. Took me 2+ hours to get somebody to admit they had no idea about the x-fi option I ordered. They told me there would be a cd available in two weeks then hung up. I spent 1600 with tax and I can't get an email to somebody who would know, I just have to deal with some guy in another country that has no clue what to do with me. Also taking a call about a driver that doesn't work properly goes like this... My new driver for "pick" doesn't work right... OK uninstall it and load the drivers from our site. To uninstall it do these 3 easy steps... probably the easiest call a rep can get.

And like I said, I understand your argument...I just still feel it's bad business to limit your customers rather than empower them and help some customers who might have eat'n more than they can chew. Most people would appreciate the better control they have over the product and return as a more knowledgeable customer (at least in the community that buys computers like alienware)

Nothing but love for ya brother, we just have different expectations.

Just so you knwo I have been in contact with dell over my Alienware due to my Dell service number not showing up and have had little to no issue... other then the run around which I expect from a large customer service corp.

If I came off as aggressive I am sorry but these are not my personal feeling but the truth set by the people of today. People sue everyone for anything so I understand why companies protect themselves from small issues, that while upset a small group, end up avoiding problems from the large group. Side note: AW is Dell so it no longer has a personal service area.

And just so you know, I am all for letting us go and do what we want but you must remember that even in the age of Nuclear power and DNA testing people still sue over the fact that coffee is hot and cruse control doesnt actually drive your car.... It sucks but you have to think of it from a distance....

Would you rather, a) pay more for your computer to get all the latest driver and updates and whatnot.... and I mean a lot more... look at insurance, which Dell, Hp, etc make a lot of their money on, and you will see.... or b) pay less for your computer and still get the same thing the other guy gets but you have to do a little work, not even work but searching, to get there?
