I just wanted to post something quick, I got my Alienware M14X R2 about 3 to 4 weeks ago.

    Specs:

    i7, 3610QM @ 2.3Ghz, 2GB nVidia GT 650m, 16Gb Ram, 500GB HD

I am currently playing FAR CRY 3, I did not expect it handle it, but it handles it just fine. I am not concerned about high frames, although, I have not ck settings, to be honest. I got this one from the outlet, refurbished and paid $750ish, added two year warranty, bumped it up to $950ish.

I went ahead and loaded every game I own and I am gonna be happy playing my games over again, over the next 2 years. Only issues, it does have issues with Crysis 3, so I may not be future proved.

I have replaced my motherboard on my desktop, 3 time in the last 2.5 years, a 780i. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

    I love my M14x too :).

I had issues with Crysis 3 and Far Cry 3 too. I suggest getting nvidia experience and let it do its optimal settings thing to see if that helps with the fps.

8 months with mine and I definitely love it. Upgraded it to Windows 8 and now it is a pretty and powerful beast!

I absolutely love windows 8, seem to be a minority.

And to the OP, don't feel bad about struggling with Crysis 3, its more a glorified benchmarking machine then a game IMO

As someone eagerly awaiting the arrival of his mx14, (i3630qm, 2gb 650m, 16gb ram, and 500gb 7.2k hd) do you think that I could run far cry3 or cry 3 perhaps with an optimal gpu over clock, and adequite cooling/ventilation? I purchased a coolermaster u2 in anticipation of this beast. Hoping to get 2-3 years of quality mobile gaming before getting a new alienware. I am aware with tweaking I can get most of the games I want to play on high or ultra ( borderlands 2, diablo 3) at least in the native res, but hoping to get at least med to high setting when out putting at 1080p on to my 40 inch tv.

I think you will struggle with Farcry 3 and Crysis 3... My M18x with an OC'ed 3920XM and a OC'ed 7970m still could only run both games on high at a framerate I found acceptable. Good purchase with the U2 though, I have a U3 and its awesome.

I love my M15x for almost 4 years now, been wanting to switch to M14x but I really don't want my new laptop's screen to be smaller than mine now.

I think I'm going to wait for the M14x R3 model and see if the upgrade is worth the reduced screen size. If it ain't, I'd probably get Lenovo Y500 with that shiny red keyboard backlit :D so I won't be too disappointed losing my colorful keyboard now

    EDIT:
oh and about Far Cry 3 and Crysis 3. My Alienware M15x with i5-540M and Radeon 5850HD can run both games in low to medium graphic settings, resolution still maxed to 1600x900. It's been years since first I bought this laptop with the new brand new Crysis 2, and I'm surprised that it's still be able to run Crysis 3 seamlessly.

Me too I love to match the colorful Windows 8 start screen with AlienFX lightning :D for the looks, it's much better than Windows 7

I love my R2. I work with computers all day and aside from a recent odd issue with a "charger incompatibility" error, I wouldn't want any other laptop. I have a Lenovo Yoga as well but aside from portability my M14x R2 crushes it in every way. My buddies all think it's a great machine as well.
